Preparedness Officer

Do you want to play an important role in strengthening Sweden's preparedness? Everyone in Sweden should have safe food and safe drinking water – even in times of crisis or war. Here, the Swedish Food Agency has a crucial role as the sector-responsible authority for the preparedness sector of food supply and drinking water. We are now looking for someone who, with creativity and enthusiasm, wants to strengthen Sweden's preparedness by coordinating and developing the work.

Why the Swedish Food Agency?

As the sector-responsible authority, the Swedish Food Agency leads the work of coordinating measures before and during peacetime crises and heightened preparedness in the food supply and drinking water preparedness sector. The sector includes the Swedish Food Agency, county administrative boards, the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, the Swedish Board of Agriculture, and the Swedish National Veterinary Institute. Collaboration between authorities in the preparedness sector is characterized by great commitment and a desire to build Sweden's preparedness together.

Your Role

Together with colleagues and other actors, you will contribute to developing and driving the work within the responsibility area of the preparedness sector. A significant part of the work consists of coordination and collaboration with other government authorities, within the preparedness sector and with other preparedness sectors, as well as internally at the Swedish Food Agency.

You should be able to represent the Swedish Food Agency and the preparedness sector in activities within the civil preparedness system. The role includes developing, compiling, and presenting information about our operations in various contexts. The area is under strong development, which means that the nature of the work may change over time. The competencies and experiences you bring with you and acquire are of great importance for the shaping of the work. Together with your colleagues, you take responsibility for the agency's common mission and resources as well as the needs of target groups. You monitor the external environment to gather new perspectives, maintain relevant competencies, and adapt your work to the agency's requirements and conditions.

Unit for Sector and Collaboration

In the Unit for Sector and Collaboration, we lead and coordinate the Swedish Food Agency's responsibility as the sector-responsible authority in the food supply and drinking water preparedness sector. We work to strengthen civil preparedness through coordination within our preparedness sector, with other preparedness sectors, and with other actors such as the Armed Forces and NATO.

Your Competence

We are looking for someone with an academic degree and at least a couple of years of experience working in a government agency. You have excellent knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written, as well as good knowledge of English. Knowledge of project management is an advantage, as is current knowledge of operations within the responsibility area of the preparedness sector. Experience handling classified security information is also an advantage. It is also advantageous if you have experience in situational awareness work.

Our operations are in strong development, and we are therefore looking for several different competencies. You either have:

  • a) good knowledge of and experience working in the Swedish civil preparedness system, as well as familiarity with collaboration between government authorities within civil preparedness. You may have experience working at a sector-responsible authority, MCF, or the Armed Forces.
  • b) knowledge of and experience working with capability development. You may have experience in capability planning or preparatory planning within total defense. You may also have experience in operational planning, prioritization, follow-up, and analysis. You need to have the ability to translate overarching goals into concrete planning, as well as to translate experiences and lessons learned into long-term capability development.

Your Personal Qualities

As a person, you find it easy to engage, build relationships, and create trust. You are creative, driven, and communicative while being attentive and able to understand the needs of others. It is important that you thrive in contexts where you represent the agency, whether it is at a meeting table or from a stage. You can plan your own work and are accustomed to taking advantage of and learning from experiences.

To succeed in your work, you act responsibly, collaboratively, and developmentally. You are solution-focused and invite and are open to collaborations and new perspectives that improve our deliveries. You enjoy working in teams and are open to new ways of working, sharing knowledge and lessons to strengthen our collective capability. We place great importance on your personal qualities.
