Region Blekinge is looking for a Chief Dentist/Dental Advisor for a full-time position to work strategically and tactically with patient safety and to be the region's foremost dental advisor.

The role involves collaboration with Public Dental Service and the management of the primary care division.

The Quality and Development Unit supports healthcare in addressing strategic issues such as patient safety, quality, accessibility, public health, and collaboration with municipalities. Within the unit, there is a patient safety function that supports management in the work for safe and good care. A reinforcement with a Chief Dentist/Dental Advisor is now planned to also support the Public Dental Service.

About the Job

The assignment is twofold. The Chief Dentist operates from a normative and patient safety legal perspective. The role is characterized by independence in patient safety issues and a responsibility to clarify risks and legal obligations regarding patient safety.

The Chief Dentist is responsible for the statutory patient safety work in dentistry, which includes:

• deciding on and being responsible for reports according to Lex Maria to IVO regarding dental care
• handling and coordinating other IVO matters, supervision, and inspections related to dental care
• supporting the organization in assessments concerning reports of licensed personnel who may pose a risk to patient safety
• providing qualified support to management and operations in complex patient safety matters

The Chief Dentist also works systematically and long-term to prevent care injuries and develop the quality of dental care by:

• being the region's dental expert in overarching patient safety and quality issues
• supporting dental management functions in matters concerning patient safety and quality
• initiating, driving, and following up governing documents, guidelines, and care processes related to patient safety and quality in dental care
• contributing to the analysis of deviations, incident investigations, and risk analyses at the system level
• participating in training initiatives and dialogues regarding patient safety
• representing Region Blekinge and Public Dental Service in regional and national networks within the field of patient safety.

The Dental Advisor operates from a strategic and development-oriented dental perspective and openly presents their dental assessment in the preparation of cases. The role is characterized by expert analysis, a holistic view, and organizational loyalty in the implementation of decisions made. To best support the division management in dental issues, the assignment will be based on the dental advisor's previous experiences and personal suitability.

The Dental Advisor supports the division management by:

• providing dental expertise for strategic decisions and development initiatives.
• conducting structured dental analyses of consequences, treatment quality, evidence base, and long-term sustainability before decisions on operational changes.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

• is a licensed dentist with extensive clinical experience
• has experience in systematic patient safety and quality work
• has experience in patient safety work, incident management, and Lex Maria reports
• can work independently, in a structured manner, and drive development issues forward
• has excellent communication skills in both speech and writing
• is confident in speaking before groups and preferably has teaching experience
• has high personal maturity and integrity

Previous documented experience in patient safety work, incident management including Lex Maria reports at a comprehensive level is strongly meritorious. Experience working in a politically governed organization and experience in publicly driven dental care are also strongly meritorious. Leadership experience/experience in strategic work in larger organizations is an advantage. Personal suitability is highly valued.
