Research Engineer in Metal-Organic Vapor Phase Epitaxy (MOVPE)

About Lund Nano Lab

Lund Nano Lab is seeking an experienced research engineer with a focus on metal-organic vapor phase epitaxy (MOVPE) and related semiconductor equipment.

In this role, you will be responsible for maintenance, service coordination, safety, and user training of advanced material processing tools, as well as ensuring reliable operation and continuous improvement. You will work closely with students, researchers, engineers, and equipment suppliers to support both daily research activities and long-term development goals. With the upcoming expansion to a new cleanroom in Science Village Lund, this is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a growing and dynamic research environment. Responsibilities

  • Overall responsibility for chemical procurement, handling, and inventory control within the cleanroom and associated laboratory areas.
  • Prepare and manage chemical solutions to support etching, cleaning processes, and related manufacturing activities.
  • Responsible for wet bench equipment, including coordination of maintenance, repairs, upgrades, and procurement of new systems to support current and future wet bench activities.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve policies, safety procedures, and risk assessments for chemical handling throughout the organization.
  • Monitor and report on cleanroom cleanliness levels, as well as the quality of internal media such as ultra-pure water and other controlled tools.
  • Ensure safe storage, handling, documentation, and traceability of hazardous and non-hazardous semiconductor processing materials, including chemicals and organometals in liquid, solid, and gas forms.
  • Create and deliver training materials and user training in chemical processes and safe laboratory practices.
  • Review, update, and optimize existing chemical processes and chemical inventories, including procedures related to waste management.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Act as the primary contact for chemical safety and related issues, in close collaboration with management and designated safety personnel.
  • Ensure quality control and monitoring of chemicals used in lithographic and related manufacturing processes.
  • Clearly and consistently communicate procedural updates and safety-related changes to users, staff, and researchers via the laboratory's internal information management system, LIMS.
  • Provide expert guidance to students, researchers, and engineers on chemical processes, processing methods, and laboratory safety.

Qualifications

Requirements for the position are:

  • Master's degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, or a related field.
  • Practical laboratory experience post-graduation.
  • Solid background in wet chemistry and handling of laboratory chemicals.
  • Documented experience with safety protocols and safe working practices in laboratories.
  • Ability to draft and maintain technical documentation and risk assessments.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to interact effectively with users and technical staff.
  • Good knowledge of Swedish and English, both written and spoken.

Desirable qualifications include:

  • Knowledge of Swedish environmental and occupational health legislation relevant to laboratory operations. Experience working in cleanroom environments.
  • Familiarity with photoresist chemistry and microfabrication-related wet processes.
  • Good understanding of safety risks associated with process gases from semiconductors.
  • Experience teaching or training users in laboratory or cleanroom environments.

Other Information

Permanent position, 100% scope. A probationary period may be applied.

Start date 2026-05-01 or by agreement.
