About the job

The Swedish Transport Agency is responsible for supervision and regulatory development in the rail traffic sector. In the Rail Traffic unit, we work with issues related to the functioning of the railway market, access to railway infrastructure, and the rights of train passengers. Our activities contribute to the effective functioning of the railway market from a competition perspective.

As an investigator, you will work with supervision and analysis within the railway market area. The work involves interpreting and applying national and EU legal regulations and assessing how the regulations are followed by market actors.

You will

  • carry out supervisory cases according to the requirements of the Railway Market Act and associated EU regulations
  • analyze complex issues with legal, economic, and market aspects
  • prepare decision-making materials, reports, and other written products
  • engage in dialogue with railway companies, infrastructure managers, and other authorities
  • contribute to the development of supervisory methods, processes, and regulations
  • participate in international cooperation within the EU as needed.

The work is varied and combines independent analytical work with teamwork.

You must have

  • a relevant academic degree in social sciences, law, economics, statistics, or another field that the Swedish Transport Agency considers equivalent
  • experience in qualified investigative work or analytical tasks that have involved: identifying and defining issues, formulating investigative questions and approaches, gathering, processing, and evaluating information from multiple sources in a systematic way using scientific or established analytical methods, and compiling results into a structured decision-making basis or report
  • experience in gathering, processing, and evaluating information from multiple sources in a systematic way, preferably using scientific or established analytical methods
  • excellent ability to express yourself in Swedish, both orally and in writing
  • good ability to express yourself in English, both orally and in writing.

It is an advantage if you also have

  • experience from supervisory activities or other governmental functions that involve applying laws and regulations
  • knowledge of the transport sector, particularly the railway area
  • experience working in international contexts, for example related to work within the EU or cooperation with other authorities
  • experience interpreting and applying EU legal acts
  • experience working with large data sets, for example by: retrieving data from databases or registers, processing and analyzing data using statistical or analytical tools, drawing conclusions based on data analysis.

The employment is permanent with placement in Borlänge. Appointment by agreement. We normally apply a probationary period. As an employee with us, there is an opportunity to work remotely up to three days a week. The needs of the organization and the nature of the tasks will determine whether and to what extent this is possible. Employment with us may involve placement in a security class. A security review with a background check according to the Security Protection Act (2018:585) may therefore be conducted. For some of our tasks in security class, Swedish citizenship is required.
