to apply for the job
Do you want to work in a dedicated team that creates a summer filled with adventure, community, and nature experiences? Do you also want to develop both in your pedagogical role and as a person? Then apply for the position of resource person at our summer camp Akka, with approximately 50 participants aged 9–12 years.
Job Responsibilities
As a resource person at Akka, you have a special responsibility to provide individual and situation-adapted support to children aged 9–12 years. The support needs may vary between different periods during the summer and from day to day. Sometimes closer presence and extra structure are required, while at other times the need is less.
Since the needs vary over time, it is also part of the role to plan and lead activities when space allows. You are thus an active part of the operation and share the responsibility for carrying out outdoor activities, group exercises, and other program content together with colleagues.
Our operation is clearly focused on outdoor life and outdoor pedagogy – participants live in tents during their stay, and nature is our primary arena. Staff live in houses nearby the camp. Once per period, you have an overnight duty, which means you sleep in a tent to be close to the participants during the night.
The camp operates around the clock, and you are part of a team that collectively is responsible for safety, structure, and community throughout the day. Therefore, you need to enjoy working outdoors in varying weather and be comfortable in an active and physical environment.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for someone who enjoys nature and has a genuine interest in working closely with children. You are confident in yourself and in your professional role, can create structure and clarity, and build trusting relationships.
You understand that children's needs can change over time and can adapt your working methods accordingly. At the same time, you are flexible enough to step in and take responsibility for activities and group leadership when the situation allows.
Personal qualities
We are looking for someone who is:
- Responsible
- Solution-focused
- Initiative-taking and creative
- Structured and orderly
- Punctual
- Clear in your boundary setting
- Collaborative
- Confident in your pedagogical role
You need to be able to give and receive feedback and have a desire to develop both the operation and yourself. The work can be both physically and mentally demanding, which requires endurance and flexibility. We value humor, warmth, and good social skills.
Experience
A strong interest in outdoor life is an important prerequisite, and experience in outdoor pedagogy is an advantage. At Akka, nature is our classroom. During the summer, we carry out activities such as hiking, raft building, paddling, swimming, team exercises, and cooking over an open fire. We also work with creative activities such as theater, dance, and music, and organize disco, tournaments, and theme days.
Experience working with children in need of special support is particularly advantageous, as is a background in schools, after-school programs, or other educational activities.
Experience/competence in any of these areas is also desirable;
- camping/camp activities
- outdoor life
- healthcare
- paddling
- theater
- singing, music
- sports
- cooking
