Production Leader for the Carpentry Workshop at Sörbyn Prison

The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now looking for more employees. Our primary goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the cycle of crime. If we succeed, society will be safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, remand facilities, and client transportation.

The Umeå operational area includes the closed prison Umeå, the open prison Sörbyn, and the remand facility Umeå. We are undergoing significant capacity increases, and there is a lot happening in the operational area in terms of renovations and new constructions. The largest professional group is prison officers, but we also have healthcare professionals, administrative staff, educators, production leaders, and more. At Sörbyn Prison, inmates are engaged in labor market training, learning centers, various treatment programs, or work in kitchens, carpentry, horticulture, textiles, etc. Sörbyn Prison is an agricultural prison with grain cultivation and animal husbandry. At Umeå Prison, inmates are engaged in wood/industry, kitchens, learning centers, and treatment programs. The prison and remand facility Umeå is about a 10-minute walk from the nearest bus stop, while Sörbyn Prison is only accessible by car. Staff parking is available at all units.

JOB DESCRIPTION

As a production leader, you will have direct contact with our clients in the prison's production. In your daily interactions with the inmates, your work will contribute to their learning and also encourage them to reflect on their situation.

After an introduction, you will be responsible for the daily operations as a production leader. You will plan, delegate tasks, and ensure that our deliveries are made on time. You will also participate in the production work yourself. Together with your colleagues, you will be responsible for production planning.

Sörbyn Prison is a work-oriented prison with a relatively large production capacity. In the carpentry workshop, you will guide inmates in wood processing, assembly, and surface treatment. You will be involved in shaping and maintaining safety and working conditions for both clients and staff, ensuring that routines and safety regulations regarding machinery and other workplace regulations are followed. Your work will include instructing inmates and guiding them in terms of behavior, attitudes, and values.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone with expertise in wood processing. You may have previously worked as a cabinetmaker, furniture carpenter, woodwork teacher, interior carpenter, carpenter, or craft educator, or have other skills in wood processing.

As a person, you are secure, stable, and self-aware. You find it easy to collaborate with others and have well-founded and clear values. In stressful situations, you remain calm, stable, and controlled. You have the ability to make sound judgments and prioritize effectively. You have a good understanding of how people learn and adapt your communication style based on the recipient's circumstances. You should also have a physical condition that allows you to act physically if the situation requires.

You are also aware of and understand how background, culture, and group affiliation affect yourself and others. Requirements:

• Completed upper secondary school education in the form of a diploma or high school certificate
• Good knowledge of the Swedish language in both spoken and written form
• Driver's license (B)
• At least two years of work experience in the wood industry
• Good computer skills

We consider it an advantage if you have:

• Work experience in a supervisory role
• Work experience in corrections, security work, social care, psychiatry, or healthcare
• Relevant language skills
• Work experience in cutting, planing, assembly, and/or surface treatment
• Experience in invoice management
