Defense Music is Hiring Musicians for the Army Band

Defense Music is the Swedish Armed Forces' function for military music. Defense Music will celebrate its 500th anniversary in 2026 and has played a significant role in the Armed Forces and Swedish music life over the centuries.

The Armed Forces has 28 bands, which consist of the permanent bands of Defense Music: the Army Band, the Life Guards' Cavalry Band, the Navy Band, and the Home Guard's 25 bands. The war organization of the Defense Field Artists is part of Defense Music. The contracted bands, the Air Force Band and the Gotland Band, are continuously engaged for music performances.

Each year, Defense Music conducts over 1,300 music performances through participation in state ceremonies, unit performances, public concerts, and tours - nationally and internationally, primarily within the alliance.

Army Band

The Army Band is a band for parade and ceremonial activities as well as a symphonic wind orchestra for concert activities in various genres and with varying focuses. The band, consisting of 53 musicians, is based in Häggvik, Sollentuna. Collaboration occurs with the other bands.

Main Responsibilities

  • Marching performances in ceremonies, parades, and figurative displays
  • Participate in concerts in orchestras and ensembles
  • Participate in recording sessions and live performances

Additionally, tasks that can promote the band's activities, such as participating in working and project groups within Defense Music, are included.

Working Conditions

  • Work takes place in various locations with irregular working hours and in changing conditions and environments, both indoors and outdoors, in Sweden and abroad
  • Performances are conducted in uniform

Qualifications

  • Music education at a university or equivalent competence
  • Very good physical condition for marching performances

Meritorious

  • Completed military service/basic military training
  • Class B driver's license

You are organized, attentive, and reliable with a flexible and solution-oriented mindset. You are a team player who finds it easy to collaborate with others. An important part of the role is to be a worthy representative of Sweden and the Armed Forces.

Employment

This advertisement pertains to a permanent position with a six-month probationary period. Start date by agreement.

Individual salary setting applies. Applicants must be Swedish citizens. Approved security clearance with background check is a requirement for employment.

Employees within the Armed Forces are offered three hours of physical training per week during working hours. Good training opportunities are available in and around the band's facilities in Sollentuna.
