Our Operations

The Department of Orthopedics and Hand Surgery has an exciting offer for you who are interested in our patient group and want to develop with us within specialized inpatient care.

The orthopedic ward 70AB is a large care unit spread over two floors. We care for orthopedic patients from about 16 years and up with all types of orthopedic and hand surgical injuries. Since many of our doctors have specialized skills in parts of orthopedic, spinal, and hand surgical care, we receive patients from large parts of the country. The length of stay varies from one day to several weeks, but is generally between 2-5 days. The ward also manages our own elective patient flow both pre- and postoperatively for both inpatient surgery and some day surgery.

We put the patient at the center and work in interdisciplinary teams consisting of orthopedic/spinal/hand surgeons, junior doctors, nurses, nursing assistants, pharmacists, ward pharmacists, physiotherapists, and occupational therapists. In addition, we have close collaboration with social workers, dietitians, and the clinic's own geriatrician.

Your Mission

As a ward pharmacist, you will be employed by us within the Department of Orthopedics and Hand Surgery at Akademiska sjukhuset and have your workplace in our care unit. Your mission is to support the ward manager, nurses, and other healthcare staff regarding medication management on the ward. You collaborate with our own clinical pharmacists and assist in providing safe and secure care and discharge for our patients.

Your tasks include medication management in several stages, from medication orders, distribution of medications to medication carts, preparation of antibiotics and other infusion/injection medications during the hospital stay, and preparing medications for patients before discharge. You will work with order and tidiness where medications are stored and handled and assist the ward manager with routines for medication management. Together with your ward pharmacist colleagues, you will have primary responsibility for the medication room and perform our routine medication checks.

Your Qualifications

We are looking for someone who is a licensed pharmacist with the authority to work within Swedish healthcare. For the position, it is also required that you have language skills in Swedish at least equivalent to level C1 according to the Council of Europe's level scale.
Meritorious qualifications:

• Previous experience working with ward pharmacy or other medication management within healthcare.
• Approved course in Clinical Pharmacy, 7.5 credits.
• Approved course in Extemporaneous Preparation of Medicines.

As a person, you are flexible, attentive, proactive, structured, and have an easy time initiating activities that yield results. You can work independently and find it easy to plan and prioritize your work and enjoy having "multiple balls in the air." You have very good communication skills and enjoy helping others and working across professional boundaries. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.
