Job Responsibilities
We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher with solid experience in qualitative research methods and a strong interest in innovation and transition processes. The position is linked to two research projects - BioClaims and ENSURE. BioClaims – Coordination of sectoral claims on biomass in the transition to a fossil-free welfare society (Swedish Energy Agency). The project examines industrial sectors' claims on biogenic resources in a fossil-free transition. A central goal is to create a knowledge base for how resource use can be reconciled within the framework of ecological boundaries and social justice. ENSURE - The effects of energy and sustainability research – quality, utility, and sustainable transition (Swedish Energy Agency). ENSURE's goal is to gain a better understanding of how research quality and societal effects of research on energy systems can be described and assessed, particularly focusing on how it contributes to sustainable transition.
The part of the BioClaims project related to the postdoctoral position is based on qualitative interviews, observations, document analysis, and participatory workshops, with theoretical starting points from innovation studies and transition studies. As a postdoctoral researcher, you will have an active and driving role in two of the project's work packages. You will, in close collaboration with colleagues at Halmstad University and other project partners (KTH and the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation), be involved in the design, implementation, and analysis of the project's research efforts. The position also offers good opportunities to develop your own ideas within the framework of the project, as well as to participate in our national and international collaborations.
You will:
- Plan and conduct qualitative interview studies in Sweden.
- Conduct observations at key conferences, meetings, or workshops within bioeconomy or other areas of interest for the project.
- Participate in data analysis and synthesis work within the project's work packages.
- Contribute to the development of theoretical and conceptual frameworks around resource conflicts, sectoral claims, and transition dynamics.
- Participate and lead in scientific publications in internationally recognized journals within innovation science, transition research, and related fields.
Within ENSURE, the work will involve analyzing qualitative data and contributing to popular science and scientific publications.
You will be part of a collaborative and dynamic research team within innovation science. With us, you will receive support from engaged colleagues and have great freedom to develop your own research profile while contributing to the project's scientific and societal goals.
The position also includes 20% teaching within courses at the undergraduate and advanced levels, where you have the opportunity to develop your pedagogical skills and take responsibility for planning and implementing courses.
Qualifications
You have a doctoral degree obtained within the last three years in a social science subject, such as innovation studies, business administration, or equivalent.
To be employed under the postdoctoral agreement, the applicant must have a doctoral degree or an international degree deemed equivalent to a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline such as entrepreneurship or innovation management.
The certificate supporting this eligibility requirement must be submitted before the employment decision is made. In the first instance, those who graduated within the last three years before the application deadline will be considered for employment. Under special circumstances, such as leave due to illness, parental leave, or similar circumstances, the doctoral degree may have been obtained earlier.
Other Qualifications
Requirements
- Documented experience of qualitative research methods, including planning, implementation, analysis, and reporting.
- Experience of research in close collaboration with actors outside academia, such as industry and authorities.
- Proficiency in Swedish and English, both spoken and written, at a high level.
- Collaborative and experienced in working together on different phases of a research project.
Meritorious
- Experience of successfully publishing in internationally recognized journals within innovation studies, transition studies, or similar.
- Previous documented research competence in innovation and transition with an industry perspective.
- Experience as a course leader for courses at the undergraduate or advanced level.
- Experience in planning and conducting education based on different pedagogical methods.
- Competence to teach within mechanical engineering projects, project management, and/or industrial transition.
- Be proactive and independent.
