We are now seeking a postdoctoral researcher in psychology to be placed at the Department of Behavioral Sciences and Learning (IBL).

Your Responsibilities

We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher for the project "Behavioral Materials Science," funded by the Marianne and Marcus Wallenberg Foundation (MMW). The project is interdisciplinary and aims to integrate psychology and materials science to develop a new understanding of how human behavior, perception, and decision-making interact with material properties, technologies, and design solutions.

As a postdoctoral researcher, you will work on designing, conducting, and analyzing behavioral experiments related to how people perceive, interpret, and interact with materials and technical systems. The work involves conducting research aimed at identifying mechanisms related to, among other things, emotion, mental imagery, environmental psychology, and decision-making.

Your main responsibilities will include collecting and analyzing studies within the framework of this research project, specifically focusing on studies of the role of emotions in individual decision-making and policy decisions. The work entails designing studies, being responsible for material preparation, coordinating data collection across multiple labs and countries, conducting data collection in online environments such as Prolific and in labs, performing advanced statistical analyses of data, and writing drafts for articles for publication in scientific journals in the fields of judgment, decision-making, and environmental psychology.

The project is part of the interdisciplinary research environment JEDI-lab at Linköping University, which uses theories and methods from cognitive psychology, social psychology, and behavioral economics. You will also collaborate closely with researchers from the technical faculty at LiU.

As a postdoctoral researcher, you will primarily conduct research. Teaching may also be included in your responsibilities, but to a maximum of one-fifth of the working time.

Your Qualifications

To be eligible for the position of postdoctoral researcher, you must have completed a doctoral degree or have a foreign degree that is assessed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree. Your degree must be completed by the time the employment decision is made.

It is advantageous if your degree was completed no more than three years before the application deadline for this position. If there are special reasons, those who have completed their doctoral degree earlier may also be considered, for example, due to various types of statutory leave.

We are looking for someone who has a doctoral degree in psychology or another education assessed as equivalent, as well as relevant experience and qualifications, and an interest in working with data collection and analysis in the aforementioned research project.

We would like you to have:

• documented experience in designing and conducting behavioral experiments, preferably on online platforms such as Qualtrics
• good familiarity with experimental design and statistical analyses in, for example, R
• familiarity with central theories in environmental psychology and decision-making

It is particularly advantageous if you have:

• documented experience in experimental psychology studies of the relationship between emotion, mental imagery, risk, and behavior
• scientific publications in decision-making research and environmental psychology
• experience with machine learning methods (e.g., Structural Topic Modeling) in the analysis of verbal data related to decision situations and climate perceptions
• experience working in interdisciplinary research environments where behavior is integrated with technology

About the Position

The position is a fixed-term appointment for two years with the possibility of extension for a total employment period of no more than three years. The postdoctoral position is full-time.
