We are now looking for an interim operational manager for the Polar Research Secretariat and the unit for ship-based research support. Do you have experience as a manager in a technical and logistics environment? The scope of the assignment is 50-60%?

About the role and tasks

The unit is responsible for organizing and conducting ship-based research expeditions in polar regions. Most of the work is located at the authority's logistics center in Helsingborg or on the icebreaker Oden. The unit currently consists of five (5) employees: a technical coordinator, two IT technicians, and two technicians.

The interim manager will primarily be responsible for the operational, but also to some extent the strategic management of the Unit for Ship-based Research Support. The assignment involves a close and present leadership with responsibility for daily operational operations as well as for the unit's long-term development.

The role involves being the operational supervisor on-site at the Logistics Center in Helsingborg or on board I/B Oden. The interim manager will lead and distribute work in daily operations and work closely with employees to ensure quality, efficiency, good working environment, and job satisfaction.

The assignment includes, among other things:

  • Be responsible for the daily operational management of the unit

  • Lead, distribute, and follow up on work within the unit

  • Ensure that operations are conducted efficiently and according to set goals

  • Drive improvement work within technology and logistics

  • Collaborate with other parts of the organization

  • Ensure that work environment and safety routines are followed

  • Be responsible for planning, follow-up, and development of the group's work

  • Perform administrative and practical tasks

  • Be responsible for the unit's budget, financial follow-up, and reporting

  • Participate in expedition planning, e.g., work with Scope of Work in collaboration with a senior expert at the authority and coordination for the three expeditions this summer.

Your background, experience, and skills

We are looking for someone who meets the following:

  • Previous experience as a manager

  • Good ability to collaborate and communicate with different target groups

  • Good knowledge and understanding of technology and logistics (to be evident in CV through relevant assignments/roles)

  • Very good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written

  • Post-secondary education, preferably in logistics, technology, or another area deemed relevant for the assignment

  • Availability to start as soon as possible, but no later than April 20

It is an advantage if you also meet:

  • Experience leading employees both on-site and remotely

  • Experience in operational leadership in a technically oriented business

  • Experience working in public administration

  • Experience working on board ships

  • Experience in research support activities

Great emphasis will also be placed on personality. We prefer that you are practical and unpretentious. You have a close-to-operation leadership style. Furthermore, you should have the ability to build trust and be collaborative. You are analytical and have a strategic holistic perspective.

You are offered

A consulting assignment via Jurek starting no later than April 20 and lasting approximately 6 months, with a chance for an additional 6-month extension. The scope of the assignment is 50-60%.
