About the Workplace

The University of Gävle is one of Sweden's most popular universities. We offer around 60 educational programs and 330 standalone courses in the humanities, healthcare and medicine, social and natural sciences, and technology. We have 19,000 students, 750 employees, and a unified campus in beautiful surroundings.

The university has four strategic research areas focusing on societal challenges: Sustainable urban development, health-promoting work, innovative learning, and intelligent industry.

Since 2023, the university is part of the European University EU GREEN, which works to strengthen the quality of higher education in the EU and increase exchange for both students and staff.

The university's vision is to be the first choice for everyone who wants to make a difference.

We offer, among other things:

  • Good working environment: employee surveys show high satisfaction and joy at work
  • Generous wellness allowance, among the best in Sweden's higher education institutions
  • Flexible working methods

The position is located within the Department of Social Work, Criminology, and Public Health Science.

We are one of three departments at the Academy of Health and Working Life. Within the department, there are four educational programs: Bachelor's program in investigative criminology, Bachelor's program in social work with a focus on international social work, social work program, and Master's program and doctoral education in social work focusing on health-promoting working life.

The rector has decided to develop a Master's program in criminology and, in the long term, a doctoral program in criminology. Therefore, a Master's program in criminology is currently being established. In addition, there are standalone courses and commissioned education. The Bachelor's program in investigative criminology has high demand among first-choice applicants in the country and is conducted remotely.

We are now looking for a full-time university lecturer in criminology.

Job Responsibilities

The job responsibilities consist of teaching, supervision, examination, and course responsibility primarily within the subject of criminology, but may also include other educational offerings, in both Swedish and English. Teaching occurs at both basic and advanced levels and is conducted both on campus and remotely. The position also includes participating in the department's and subject's development work as well as administrative work, collaboration, and internationalization. Research may be included within the competence development time if the operations allow it, alternatively by obtaining external funding.

The workplace is Gävle.

Qualifications

A doctoral degree or a relevant foreign degree assessed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree is required for the position. Applicants must have obtained their doctoral degree in criminology or a subject that the employer assesses as equivalent. In addition, documented pedagogical skills are required, see the Higher Education Ordinance (1993:100) and the Employment Regulations at the University of Gävle. The applicant must, considering the content of the position and job responsibilities, demonstrate a good ability to express themselves in speech and writing in both Swedish and English.

The applicant must have completed higher education pedagogical training equivalent to at least ten weeks of full-time studies or otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge.

In the appointment process, equal care is given to the assessment of scientific and pedagogical skills.

Particularly meritorious is documented experience of research, teaching, supervision, and examination within criminology. Furthermore, the applicant's rated collaborative skills are particularly meritorious.

Administrative ability is meritorious. For the position as a university lecturer, it is also meritorious if the research focus relates to the research activities in criminology conducted within the subject group as well as to the Bachelor's program in investigative criminology, such as research on the police, criminal policy, school surveys and safety surveys, victimology, attitudes towards crime and punishment, and criminal networks. Behavioral and social science research is relevant. Research experience in qualitative and quantitative analysis, evaluation methodology, and practical professional experience in the subject area is also meritorious for the position.
