The Department of Education and Child Services is responsible for preschool, after-school care, primary school, high school, and adult education.

Do you want to make a real difference in students' learning, development, and well-being?

As a school psychologist, you are an important part of our ongoing student health work where psychological knowledge is a vital competence to create a school where every student has the opportunity to succeed.

In Ovanåker Municipality's Central Student Health, social workers, special educators, school nurses, and a school psychologist work together based on each individual profession. There are about 1200 students in primary school and 280 students in high school. There are 7 primary schools but 9 school units, of which 2 units are secondary schools in the municipality.

As a school psychologist, you will work from the central student health service and on the principal's assignment. Your main workplace will be at one of the secondary schools where several of the central student health professionals are located. There will also be opportunities to work some of the time from home.

In your role, you will work both preventively and health-promoting, but also with targeted interventions when needs arise. The work takes place at the individual, group, and organizational levels and is characterized by close collaboration with school staff, guardians, and other stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute a psychological perspective to the student health team's work and the school's development initiatives.
  • Work preventively by providing guidance and consultation to educators, school leaders, and other staff.
  • Conduct observations, assessments, and analyses of learning environments and student groups to support educators in teaching situations and develop interventions for students.
  • Strengthen the school's staff through training and professional development in areas such as mental health, neuropsychiatric difficulties, and interaction.
  • Conduct psychological assessments and investigations, primarily before decisions about adapted schooling.
  • Provide advice and support to guardians and students facing school-related difficulties.

Qualifications

We are looking for a licensed psychologist with experience working with children and students in primary and adapted primary schools. You have a good understanding of methods relevant to the school psychologist's role and thrive in a position where both independent responsibility and collaboration with others are crucial.

To succeed in the role, we see that you:

  • Are stable and secure in your professional role and have a good ability to create trusting relationships.
  • Have good collaboration skills and enjoy working in teams and in interdisciplinary contexts.
  • Are self-driven and organized, with a good ability to plan, prioritize, and follow up on your work.
  • Have an analytical approach, see the big picture, and can weigh complex information in your decision-making.
  • Are flexible and adaptable, and see opportunities even when circumstances change.
  • Have integrity and ethical awareness in both everyday and more complex situations.
  • Can drive development work and take initiatives that promote the development of the school and student health.
  • Have good communication skills in spoken and written Swedish.

Good references from previous employers are required.

Meritorious are:

  • Experience in investigating children and students with special needs, including neuropsychiatric disabilities.
  • Experience in providing guidance, consultation, and training for educational staff.

You need a driver's license to travel between school units.

Conditions

Permanent employment 100% with vacation service and monthly salary. Start date according to agreement as soon as possible but no later than 10/8-2026. Interviews may be conducted continuously during the application period.
