PhD Candidate in Education with a Focus on Artificial Intelligence in Teacher Education
The department has been granted funding by the Swedish Research Council to coordinate the GRAITE (GRAduate school for Artificial Intelligence in Teacher Education) research school.
The activities within GRAITE are conducted in collaboration between nine Swedish universities and colleges. Previously, the research school has accepted three cohorts of doctoral students, including more than 60 doctoral candidates. The fourth admission related to this position focuses on the theme of artificial intelligence in teacher education.
We are seeking a PhD candidate focusing on the theme of artificial intelligence in teacher education. Within the department, a larger development project is being carried out where AI is implemented in educational activities. In the advertised position, you will collaborate with your supervisors – experienced researchers in the field of the position – to contribute to exploring this development work.
Education is an academic subject that examines various forms of systematic influence processes such as upbringing, leadership, learning, teaching, and education at the individual level, within groups, and at a societal level. This is studied within various organizations and contexts, for example, within the formal education system or in the workplace and from a lifelong learning perspective. At Mid Sweden University, the subject of education has training and research linked to teacher education and the behavioral science program. The research is organized into four research groups: Didactics, Inclusion and Diversity (DIM), Higher Education and E-Learning (HEEL), Critical Educational Research (KUF), Educational Leadership and School Development (ULS).
Job Responsibilities
The doctoral education in the subject of education initially includes 100% research. In a later stage of the education, teaching and administrative work may be included up to 20%.
Eligibility
Basic eligibility is granted to those who have completed a degree at the advanced level or have completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits at the advanced level or have acquired equivalent knowledge in some other way within or outside the country. Specific eligibility is granted to those who have basic eligibility with at least 90 higher education credits in education at the undergraduate level, including an independent project of 15 higher education credits, and at least 30 higher education credits in education at the advanced level, including an independent project of 15 higher education credits, or have acquired equivalent knowledge in some other way within or outside the country.

You are interested in creating professional relationships and networks with other researchers and the surrounding community both nationally and internationally. You are also flexible and comfortable handling demands and setbacks in your work.
Assessment Criteria
We will evaluate the following assessment criteria during the hiring process:
- Good ability to benefit from education at the doctoral level.
- Good ability to independently plan and organize work.
- Documented good collaboration skills and the ability to create relationships and networks.
- Good ability to express yourself in speech and writing in both Swedish and English.
- Good ability to handle specific requirements for the position.
Other Qualifications Relevant to the Position
Other qualifications relevant to the advertised position include a documented interest in pedagogical development work and the implementation of digital technology in educational activities.
Processing

Employment and Start Date
The doctoral position corresponds to an employment equivalent to four years of full-time studies and is expected to lead to a doctoral degree. If the pace of study in the doctoral education changes, the employment period will change accordingly.
A new employment as a doctoral student is valid for a maximum of one year, and the employment may then be renewed for a maximum of two years at a time. Regulations regarding employment as a doctoral student can be found in the Higher Education Ordinance (1993:100), Chapter 5, Sections 1-7.
Start date: 2026-08-15 or by agreement.
Place of employment: Sundsvall
Salary: According to Mid Sweden University's salary scale for doctoral students.
