Postdoctoral Researcher in Applied Audio Sensor Systems

The Department of Computer and Electrical Engineering offers education in the fields of computer engineering, electronics, electrical engineering, and sound production. Research at the department is conducted at the research center Sensible Things that Communicate (www.miun.se/stc (http://www.miun.se/stc)) and focuses on sensor-based systems and services for use in the Internet of Things and artificial intelligence.

Job Description

We offer a postdoctoral position in Applied Audio Sensor Systems.

The position focuses on areas such as measurement with and design of audio array systems, sound positioning, and sound classification. The position is linked to a research project on heart sound monitoring with array systems and AI. The research for the position will be conducted in close collaboration with national and international partners.

The focus of the position is on measuring with audio array systems for monitoring heart sounds for auscultation. The position may also include implementation aspects of sound positioning models with or without AI. The work will be experimental and theoretical in nature and will include data collection, development and verification of models and systems, as well as generalization of solutions.

Qualifications

For this position, a PhD in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field is required, along with previous academic experience in audio array systems and machine learning.

Assessment Criteria

For this position, there are several qualifications that serve as assessment criteria in the hiring process. Particularly meritorious is academic experience in the following areas:

  • Audio array systems, including technologies such as beamforming, fingerprinting, and other sound positioning methods, as well as experience with various sensors for sound capture.
  • Machine learning models particularly suited for sound, such as 1D CNN and 2D CNN, LSTM, etc.
  • Signal processing such as spectrograms, impulse response estimation, etc.

Meritorious (but not absolutely necessary) is:

  • Some form of teaching experience in Electrical Engineering or Electronics.

Personal Qualities

Active participation and collaboration within the research group are essential. Therefore, it is important that you are a responsible person with a holistic view, possess good collaborative skills, social competence, can communicate fluently both orally and in writing in English, and are structured in your work approach.
