About the Role
As a Development Engineer in R&D Industrial Coating, you will be part of a small, close-knit team working on the development of surface treatment products for industrial application on floors. The role is both theoretical and practical and includes laboratory work. You will work on formulating, mixing, and testing lacquer systems in a lab environment. Application and evaluation take place in Bona's own lab with industrial equipment such as roller, sanding, and brushing machines, and various radiation-curing sources (UV, LED, and Excimer lamps).
The development work is primarily project-based, focusing on long-term, strategic development projects. This may involve developing new products, updating existing formulations based on customer requirements or legislation, or replacing raw materials. The position also involves contact with various machine suppliers and further developing technology for future technological shifts in radiation-curing technologies.
You will have significant responsibility and are expected to drive projects from idea and theory to practical application, evaluation, and scaling in close collaboration with salespeople, technicians, international colleagues, and raw material suppliers.
More concretely, the role includes:
- Developing and modifying UV-curable and waterborne lacquer systems for industrially produced floors
- Formulating, mixing, and laboratory testing of lacquers, oils, pigments, and raw materials
- Practical application and evaluation in the lab and with machine suppliers
- Modifying existing products and developing new recipes based on customer requirements and specifications
About You
We are looking for someone who is practical and driven. You should be unpretentious and curious with a genuine interest in chemistry, materials, and industrial applications. You thrive in a laboratory environment and have no problem transitioning from theory to practice. We also believe you are goal-oriented and proactive, as you think, test, evaluate, and test again.
You are structured, meticulous, and have great respect for health, safety, and the environment. Order and tidiness are important to you, and you take responsibility for both your own work and the team's shared environment. At the same time, you are down-to-earth and naturally collaborate with others. You are not afraid to ask for help, share your knowledge, and contribute improvement suggestions.
You thrive in a small organization with short decision-making paths, an open atmosphere, and varied tasks. You are self-sufficient, solution-oriented, and used to planning and driving your work forward within given timeframes without losing flexibility in a changing project environment.
The following are requirements for the position:
- Academic degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, polymer technology, or equivalent at the bachelor's, master's, or engineering level
- A couple of years of work experience, preferably in a lab
- Very good knowledge of Swedish and English
- Familiarity with the Office suite
Meritorious:
- Practical experience in laboratory work within paint, lacquer, polymers, adhesives, or a related chemical engineering environment
- Experience with SAP and chemical management systems
