The Community Building Administration is responsible for food and cleaning, exploitation, urban planning and building permits, parks and green areas, streets, water, and waste. Here, over 300 employees work together to make Ystad a great municipality to live, work, and thrive in.
The Waste Unit is responsible for collecting municipal waste and garden waste from households. In addition, we work to increase recycling and create interest in sustainable consumption. Collection of food and residual waste, packaging, return paper, and garden waste from single-family homes, as well as sludge from individual sewage systems, is done in-house, while the collection of grease, packaging, and return paper from multi-family homes and recycling stations is handled by contractors. The Waste Unit currently consists of nineteen people who work with everything from collection to strategic work and communication.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
As a waste engineer in Ystad Municipality, you ensure that the waste operations are conducted according to applicable environmental and occupational health legislation. You collaborate closely with contractors and internal functions and are an important part of the development of the operations.
You produce analyses, decision-making materials, and improvement proposals to develop, quality assure, and streamline the operations. The role includes:
- Working with issues regarding building permits, detailed plans, and waste statistics
- Participating in procurements and following up and developing contracts
- Analyzing quality, efficiency, and sustainability and suggesting improvements
- Being responsible for the municipality's recycling stations, including procurement and follow-up of collection, cleaning, repairs, and textile collection
- Participating in the investigation of Future Recycling Stations
You drive and participate in projects that support the operational goals and act as expert support in waste issues. You contribute information to the web and other channels, report statistics in relevant databases, and handle feedback from residents and businesses. The role involves many contact surfaces and requires clear and service-oriented communication.
QUALIFICATIONS
We are looking for someone who has:
- A university degree in environmental engineering, waste management, community building, or equivalent engineering education
- Good knowledge of environmental and waste legislation
- Experience from waste, environmental, or water operations, preferably within the public sector
- Experience in contractor collaboration and follow-up
- Knowledge of statistics and analysis
- Good ability to express yourself in Swedish, both orally and in writing
- Driving license B
You build trusting relationships, collaborate well, and communicate clearly. You are confident in presentations, adapt messages to the target audience, and have a strong interest in the environment. You are analytical, structured, and can translate data into well-founded decisions.
Desirable is experience with LOU and contract follow-up, building permit and detailed planning processes, project management, circular economy, and sustainability work as well as information work towards the public and businesses.
