Unit for International Development Cooperation, Method Group, Ministry for Foreign Affairs

Do you want to help shape the future of aid policy and contribute to implementing the government's reform agenda for aid? We are looking for a driven and strategic employee to be responsible for the overall strategic management of Swedish aid, which also includes responsibility for development and aid effectiveness as well as evidence follow-up.

The Ministry for Foreign Affairs (MFA) is responsible for a wide range of issues within Sweden's foreign and security policy, development cooperation, and international trade. The Unit for International Development Cooperation, MFA IU, is responsible for the overall management of Swedish aid. The unit is responsible for issues related to Sida, Swedfund, and the Expert Group for Aid Analysis (EBA) and coordinates policy, budget, and grant issues within expenditure area 7 International Aid. The unit also coordinates Swedish positions within the EU's development cooperation and coordinates issues related to the OECD's Development Assistance Committee (DAC).

As an officer in the Method Group at the Unit for International Development Cooperation, MFA IU, you play an important role in implementing the government's reform agenda Aid for a New Era – Freedom, Empowerment, and Sustainable Growth – by contributing to the effective strategic management of the government's policy.

The position includes overall coordination responsibility for bilateral, regional, and thematic aid strategies, including advice and methodological support to MFA's functional and geographical units on issues such as consultations with the aid agency Sida, dialogue and reporting, and synergies between strategies. You will also have a special role regarding development and aid effectiveness as well as evidence follow-up. The work is carried out in close dialogue with the political leadership, and your role is to prepare materials and participate in presentations. Other tasks within the unit's areas of responsibility may also arise. The position involves close contacts with Sida, as well as contacts with other ministries and authorities.

Your Background

You have an academic degree in a relevant field and at least 10 years of work experience in international development cooperation within the Government Offices, Swedish authorities, or international organizations, including at the country level. You have experience leading and coordinating complex processes and projects. Experience from strategically managed aid and international issues is an advantage. You need a good understanding of the demands of working in a politically governed organization. You can express yourself well in both spoken and written Swedish and English.

We place great emphasis on personal qualities and are looking for someone who is meticulous, results-oriented, analytical, structured, and has a good ability to initiate, lead, and implement processes. You should have excellent collaboration skills, flexibility, and good communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work under tight deadlines. Good ability to create and maintain networks.

This is a permanent position with a start date of August 1, 2026, or by agreement.

The position is classified in a security class, and a security clearance with a background check will be conducted before a hiring decision is made. You must be a Swedish citizen.
