Job Responsibilities

The Affinity Proteomics-Stockholm facility (https://www.scilifelab.se/units/affinity-proteomics/ (https://www.scilifelab.se/units/affinity-proteomics/)) is part of the Proteomics platform at SciLifeLab (https://www.scilifelab.se/ (https://www.scilifelab.se/)). The group is also affiliated with the Department of Protein Chemistry at the School of Chemistry, Biotechnology and Health at KTH. Our focus is on biomarkers in body fluids.

We are looking for a data scientist with a focus on clinical proteomics and studies for the discovery and validation of biomarkers. The position will focus on building robust workflows for data management and analysis for large epidemiological cohorts and clinical projects, as well as supporting both user-specific analyses and internal projects. A central part of the work is the development of pipelines and applications for quality control of data, as well as methods for analyzing and integrating different types of clinical and proteomics data across multiple platforms. The successful candidate will also support data harmonization across platforms and contribute high-quality bioinformatics expertise to joint validation studies, ensuring that SciLifeLab's proteomics infrastructure continues to be a cornerstone of precision medicine.

Qualifications

Requirements

Education: Completed degree at the undergraduate or graduate level (higher education) in bioinformatics, computational biology, biostatistics, or another related field within life sciences, with extensive relevant experience (4+ years).
Programming: Advanced proficiency in Python, R, or similar programming languages.
Bioinformatics background: Experience from industry or academia applying data science in studies for the discovery and validation of biomarkers, clinical research, or translational research.
Workflows: Documented experience in developing and implementing workflows for the analysis of biological data (e.g., proteomics, genomics, transcriptomics, or multi-omics).
Communication: Excellent command of English, both spoken and written, as well as the ability to work in international and interdisciplinary research environments with a positive attitude towards service-oriented work.
Personal qualities: You are communicative, a team player, self-driven, goal- and result-oriented, meticulous in documentation, flexible, and have a creative and solution-oriented approach.

Meritorious

Advanced degree: Master's or PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, biostatistics, or a related field and/or 5–10+ years of relevant experience is meritorious.
Multi-omics integration: Experience integrating proteomics data with other omics data types.
Specialized skills: Documented experience in analyzing affinity proteomics data (e.g., Olink, SomaScan, Luminex, Quanterix). Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., ggplot2, seaborn, Shiny, Plotly).
Applications: Experience in biomarker and epidemiological studies, including survival analysis, longitudinal modeling, multivariate analysis, and Bayesian statistics. Experience in statistical modeling, machine learning, and AI methods applied to biomedical data is meritorious.
Clinical proteomics: Experience with clinical trial data, real-world evidence (RWE), and biomarker-driven study designs is a strong plus. Familiarity with regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, EMA) for biomarker validation and companion diagnostics is meritorious.
Awareness of diversity and equality issues with a particular focus on gender equality.

About the Employment
