The department educates and conducts research in pedagogy, psychology, and social work.
Job Responsibilities
We are looking for someone who is engaged in research and education and who wants to be a part of Mid Sweden University and our collegium.
As a professor in social work, you will conduct your own research while also working with colleagues in the field and at other institutions to develop and strengthen the research environment in social work at Mid Sweden University. You are expected to actively seek research funding that benefits the department and to foster good relationships and collaboration with actors outside the university.
As a professor, you have overall responsibility for the quality and development of the social work program as well as for the other programs in the subject at both undergraduate and graduate levels. You are expected to teach at all levels, including supervising doctoral students.
As a professor, you are expected to strengthen and develop social work as a research subject and to enhance the research environment that is central to the continued positive development of doctoral education.
Qualifications
Eligible for the position of professor is someone who has demonstrated both scientific and pedagogical competence (HF Chapter 4, Section 3). To be eligible, a doctoral degree in social work or a related field is required, along with extensive documented experience in research and teaching within social work.
For eligibility as a professor, a higher education pedagogical qualification of at least 15 higher education credits or at least 10 weeks of full-time studies is required; if this is lacking, the employed professor must achieve this within two years from the date of employment.
Other Requirements
As a professor, you have a leading role in leading and developing social work as a research and educational subject. This requires good collaboration, initiative, and communication skills, as well as a pronounced collegial approach to the tasks to be performed.
A high physical presence at the workplace is a requirement. A maximum of two working days of remote work per week may be applicable and will be regulated via a remote work agreement.
Good knowledge of Swedish and English in both spoken and written form is a requirement.
Personal qualities that we consider important for employment as a professor include good collaboration and communication skills. Furthermore, you should be structured, proactive, and responsible in your work.
Assessment Criteria
As assessment criteria for the appointment of a professor, the degree of such competence required for eligibility for employment will apply. Equal care is given to the assessment of pedagogical competence as to scientific competence.
Experience in academic roles such as program director, program manager, department head, etc., is meritorious. A social work degree is also meritorious. Of these, experience in academic roles will be assigned higher merit value.
Processing

Employment and Start Date
The position is a permanent full-time appointment with a start date of 2027-05-01 or by agreement.
