Job Responsibilities

Welcome to Sigtunaboendet! We who work here are proud of our residence and our work that is at the forefront of harm reduction efforts in Sweden. We are looking for someone who wants to be part of our team and contribute to our ongoing work.

As a social worker at Sigtunaboendet, you will work specifically with homelessness and active drug use. Tasks vary from mapping conversations and support talks to the admission of residents and collaboration with other professional actors regarding cases. At Sigtunaboendet, people of different ages, with various drug use and diverse life stories live. This requires the ability to switch between different strategies and approaches depending on the individual you are facing. It also requires the organization to constantly evaluate and find new solutions to the challenges we face.

Here, a day team (8:00 AM - 4:30 PM) consists of six social workers, coordinators, a caretaker, and a cleaner. Since last autumn, there has been an evening and weekend team consisting of 4 social pedagogues. The residence is also staffed with security around the clock.

We are looking for someone who wants to become part of our operations, our daily work, but also be a resource in environmental analyses and our development work. As an employee with us, you will be offered, in addition to what comes from collegial exchange, a solid introduction, external supervision, flexible hours, method development, and wellness benefits.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with a degree in social work. You have experience working with individuals who have active dependency issues and mental health problems, and we would like you to have worked with individuals in the target group described above who are also experiencing homelessness. With us, it is a prerequisite to work with a low-arousal approach, so you need to have prior experience in this. We also wish that you have an interest, engagement, and up-to-date knowledge in issues such as harm reduction, drug use, homelessness, and comorbidity.

Meritorious

  • Experience meeting individuals in the current target group (substance abuse, mental health issues, etc.) who are also experiencing homelessness
  • Harm reduction approach
  • Experience with MI
  • Experience working in outpatient care
  • Experience working in psychiatry
  • Experience working in treatment homes or residential operations
  • Experience working with authority enforcement
  • Experience collaborating with other actors such as police, healthcare, and social services
  • Driver's license for manual transmission vehicles and good driving experience

Since our work involves a lot of communication, both in written documentation and conversations, good knowledge of the Swedish language in both speech and writing, as well as good communicative skills, is required.

A friendly approach, regardless of who you meet, is a must. You are also a person who, through your personality and previous work experience, has a good ability to remain stable in situations that require respectful boundary-setting, and you are secure and stable in yourself with your emotions under control, even in more challenging situations.

In relation to the workgroup, we need you to be collaborative, attentive, and work to create a good work climate. You reflect on your own actions and are comfortable giving and receiving feedback. You also have a high level of flexibility, both in terms of approach in different situations and changing circumstances.

Great emphasis is placed on personal suitability.

About the Workplace

Sigtunaboendet is a low-threshold residence for individuals experiencing homelessness and who have an active drug use often in combination with comorbidity. The section consists of Sigtunaboendet and outreach services for adults.

We who work here know that we need each other's different experiences and competencies to take both small and large steps in conducting high-quality social work for our target group. We meet the residents of Malmö where they are and find paths to change together with the individual. One of our success factors is that over the years, we have succeeded well in establishing good and strong collaborations with internal and external actors, such as Region Skåne, the police, and the universities in Malmö and Lund. Besides being able to do more when we are many, it opens more doors to positive change for our residents.

We regularly invite and are invited to collaborate both internally and externally. We hold presentations about our operations and the lessons we learn along the way. This is a task we undertake together as a staff group.

At Sweden's largest labor market and social administration, 2,500 employees work every day to strengthen the residents of Malmö. Together with the residents of Malmö, we want to increase opportunities for self-sufficiency, reduce homelessness, contribute to ensuring that children and young people have good growing conditions, and ensure that newcomers have good conditions. It is an important and enjoyable job, but far from simple. Apply for a job with us, you will make a difference.
