AT for Researchers

AT for researchers is conducted at the Academic Hospital and within primary care throughout Uppsala County.

We are now announcing up to seven AT blocks for researchers for 18 months of clinical service and six months of research at Uppsala University. The clinical service involves twelve months of service at the Academic Hospital and six months of service at one of the county's health centers.

We are looking for you who are interested in combining clinical work with medical research. The block includes:

• internal medicine specialties 4.5 months
• surgical specialties 4.5 months
• psychiatry 3 months
• general medicine 6 months
• research 6 months

The clinical service is interspersed with research. The employment always ends with clinical service.

Your Qualifications

You who apply must have a medical degree at the time of employment.

Meritorious

Up to six months of clinical experience as a substitute doctor is meritorious in this recruitment. Previous experience of working in Region Uppsala is meritorious. Other relevant experience in healthcare may also be meritorious. Degrees obtained, publications in scientific journals, and participation in conferences are meritorious. Teaching experience is also meritorious.

Your Competence

As a person, you are meticulous and structured. You are also flexible, have good collaboration skills, and sound judgment.

Assessment of Research Plan

Your research plan will be assessed by experts who rank applicants based on clinical, research, and teaching merits, as well as the potential of the research plan.

The selection for AT for researchers is made in consultation with the university hospital board, which has representatives from the Faculty of Medicine at Uppsala University and Region Uppsala. The university hospital board reserves the right to certain strategic considerations in the allocation of positions for AT for researchers.

Note that if you are a doctoral student, you must be registered at Uppsala University. If you are not yet a registered doctoral student or if you are already a PhD, you must be affiliated with Uppsala University.

Your application should include

• Medical degree certificate, if you have obtained your medical degree, otherwise it must be submitted to the AT unit before an employment contract can be issued
• CV detailing your education and work experience
• Three references
• Research plan of a maximum of four pages in Swedish or English. The research plan should be attached as a PDF according to the instructions in the application system Researchweb.
• Certificate of doctoral degree if you are a PhD
• Admission letter for doctoral studies from Uppsala University if you are a doctoral student
• Certificate from the main supervisor regarding plans for research activities if you are not a PhD
• Publication list of scientific works, attached as a PDF according to the instructions in the application system Researchweb. The requirement for a publication list applies to both those who are PhDs and those who are not yet PhDs
• Service certificate confirming your clinical experience. Other certificates may be accepted provided that the period (yy-mm-dd - yy-mm-dd) is stated and the certificate is signed
• If you have a foreign medical degree, you must attach a decision from the National Board of Health and Welfare to perform general service, AT. A certificate of language skills in Swedish equivalent to Swedish C1/Svenska som andraspråk 3 must also be attached

A potential job offer will be made after a weighing of merits, both clinical and research-related, and interviews.

Other information

Interviews will be held at the Academic Hospital during week 12, 2026. The start of service is planned for week 36, 2026. In this recruitment, we plan to appoint up to seven AT doctors.
