Åland Central Hospital

Åland Health and Medical Care (ÅHS) can, in collaboration with the Academic Hospital in Uppsala, offer residency training on Åland. ÅHS is responsible for all public healthcare on Åland, with the Åland Government as the principal authority. Åland has a population of just over 30,000, and ÅHS, with approximately 1,000 employees, is one of the largest employers in the region. ÅHS is a safe and family-oriented workplace with short decision-making paths. Here, our doctors, nursing staff, dentists, various types of therapists, and other specialized and service personnel together form a creative and knowledge-oriented organization. The hospital is small, but the operations are extensive and efficient.

We are announcing three residency blocks of 19 months with clinical training at Åland Central Hospital. The block also includes service at our two health centers in Åland. The theoretical training takes place at the Academic Hospital and at Åland Central Hospital.

The block includes:

  • internal medicine specialties 5.5 months
  • surgical specialties 4.5 months
  • psychiatry 3 months
  • general medicine at Åland health center 6 months

Your Qualifications

You who are applying must have completed medical training in Sweden. You must have a diploma from your medical education in Sweden at the time of employment. Before the start of the service, you must apply for a time-limited license as a doctor in Finland via Valvira.fi.

Meritorious

In this recruitment, previous temporary positions are meritorious, particularly those within emergency care with on-call duties. Other experience where you have acquired the competencies we are looking for may also be meritorious, as well as local ties, recommendations, and future plans. Selection will be made through a combination of formal merits and interviews.

Your Competence

As a person, you are meticulous, structured, and willing to take significant responsibility as a resident doctor. You are also flexible, self-aware, have good collaboration skills, and sound judgment. We are looking for engaged and motivated doctors who understand what it means to do residency at a smaller hospital with a higher on-call burden and great development potential under supervision.

Only applicants with a medical degree from Sweden have the opportunity to do residency in Åland.

  • Medical diploma from the medical program in Sweden.
  • CV that outlines your education and experience
  • Certificates of service that confirm your previous experience. Other certificates may be accepted provided they include the period (year-month-day – yy-mm-dd) and extent and are signed.
  • Any recommendation letters from previous employment.

Other information

Interviews will be held at Åland Central Hospital on Wednesday, March 11th. There is an option for a digital interview for those who wish. Start date by agreement, three positions starting in July, September, and November. Before the start of the service, you must apply for a time-limited license as a doctor in Finland via Valvira.fi.

In collaboration with the Academic Hospital, you will participate in introductory weeks in Uppsala and attend recurring seminars.
