Do you want to make a difference every day? Gottorpskolan (grades 7–9) is looking for a school counselor who wants to contribute to our students' well-being, development, and future. With us, you will have the opportunity to grow in your professional role alongside competent and driven colleagues.
As a school counselor, you have a special responsibility for students in need of special support from a social perspective. You will have the opportunity to actively participate in and assist the school management in school development work, as well as identify and create opportunities for change and development at the student, group, and organizational levels with a focus on student health.
You will:
- Offer individual conversations to support students' psychosocial health and school attendance
- Be part of the school's student health team and contribute a social perspective on learning while working to ensure students thrive and feel good
- Work preventively with the equal treatment plan, values, and against bullying
- Be part of the school's social group and work preventively as well as conduct absence investigations, social mappings, and social assessments as needed
- Guide the school's other staff and provide consultation and advice from a social perspective
- Be a support to students and staff during acute events and crises
- Collaborate with social services, child and adolescent psychiatry (BUP), guardians, and other external actors
You will work closely with your colleagues in the school's social group, teachers, work teams, and school management to give all students the opportunity to reach as far as they can in their development.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone with a degree in social work and experience working as a school counselor. A requirement is that you have at least two years of experience in social work focused on children and adolescents. It is an advantage if you are a licensed health and medical care counselor, have previously worked with middle school students, and/or have relevant advanced training in mental health, child and adolescent development, or conversation methodology.
You have a good understanding of the school's goals and governing documents, as well as knowledge of other administrations, such as social services and child and adolescent psychiatry (BUP). You have a professional approach and build good relationships with students, guardians, and colleagues. We are looking for someone who wants to contribute to both students' and the school's development and who sees the value in collaboration and community.
About the Workplace
You will be offered a workplace where you can influence, develop, and be an important part of students' futures. Gottorpskolan is a modern middle school with functional facilities in Bunkeflostrand, just outside Malmö. Here, over 550 students in grades 7–9 attend, and we have about 70 employees who together create a safe and stimulating learning environment. Since we receive students from many different schools, we place great importance on creating safe transitions to grade 7. At Gottorpskolan, relationships are at the center – because we know that good relationships are the key to learning.
Our social group with counselors, student coordinators, and social educators focuses on safety and study peace and leads the systematic work for increased attendance. For several years, we have conducted exchanges within the framework of Erasmus+ and have classes in each grade within the MFF academy. We are pleased to offer an after-school club in music, literature, and chess. Our bright and well-equipped library is run by a school librarian who contributes to the joint language development work. We offer a cohesive faculty with a strong will and ability to welcome and support new colleagues. Leadership is close and engaged, and we care about both students' and staff's development. The work environment and well-being are central parts of our operations – we want both students and employees to feel motivated and well with us.
The primary school administration – the city's largest administration with about 80 schools, 6500 employees, and 36000 students offers a workplace for everyone. Here, we want to grow, develop, and challenge ourselves in our learning together – every day. We ensure that everyone has a good working environment and invest in leadership. Together, we all work for each student's best school! The primary school administration's student health is HBTQI-certified, which strengthens the strategic work aimed at creating a good working environment and an HBTQI-competent and inclusive approach in our schools.
The City of Malmö's operations are organized into 14 administrations. Our common mission is to create welfare and sustainable community development. Together with the people of Malmö, we develop an even better city to live, work, and be in; differences, life experiences, and talents make Malmö a smart city in the heart of Europe.
