The role of parks is changing, and the use of the city's green spaces and the importance of nature for recreation is increasing as the city grows. This places high demands on us as a district administration, and park engineers have an important role in the ongoing work.

We offer a stimulating and varied role, where you will be involved in managing and developing the parks and green areas of the southern inner city. You will belong to the Urban Environment Unit, which consists of two landscape architects, five park engineers, a construction project manager, a community planner, and a unit manager. The operation is a client organization, and park maintenance is outsourced.

We often work together with other administrations and actors depending on the assignment and subject area, utilizing our different competencies within the department. The Urban Environment operation has a consistent focus on tree, environmental, and climate issues, and we actively work on the development and improvement of our operations, where everyone is involved.

Your role as a park engineer

In the role of park engineer, you will work with the management and development of parks, green areas, and nature reserves within the Södermalm district. Your role includes responsibility for contract follow-up and control of operational contracts in the urban environment. Together with your colleagues, you will have close cooperation with both units within the administration and other administrations and companies in Stockholm City. The work also involves many other contact points with, for example, the County Administrative Board, property owners, suppliers, and consultants. The daily case flow is managed in close coordination with the relevant actors using a digital support system. A central part of the role consists of citizen contacts, which mainly involves following up on error reports, answering questions and feedback from Södermalm residents. In addition, you will represent the Södermalm district administration in various forums within the city that handle issues related to park operations.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with a degree in landscape engineering, horticulture engineering, or another completed higher education focused on nature conservation, tree care, outdoor environment maintenance, and environmental protection, or vocational post-secondary education that the employer assesses as equivalent. Good computer skills where you have actively worked in various programs of the Office suite and a very good ability to express yourself well in both spoken and written Swedish.

It is an advantage if you have experience in monitoring contract agreements within park and garden maintenance or performing park and garden maintenance with contractors/own management, developed plant knowledge, stormwater competence, and experience working with tree supervision, development of planting beds, as well as experience from work in a politically governed organization.

You are self-driven and take responsibility for your tasks, finding quick and effective solutions to problems and changing conditions that arise within the framework of the assignment. You are guided by goal and result thinking in priorities, planning, and actions. This role involves many contacts, and therefore good collaboration skills and a positive attitude are required. You also need to be structured and work long-term with the best interests of the entire operation in focus.
