Part-Time Arrest Guard
Are you ready for a bigger challenge? The Swedish Police Authority is Sweden's largest authority with approximately 40,000 employees across the country. With us, you have the opportunity to contribute to the Police's mission – to increase safety and reduce crime in society.
The Södermanland Police Area is in the midst of an exciting development project to strengthen our crime fighting efforts. By increasing our crime clearance rates and the presence of uniformed police in external service, we create a safer everyday life for citizens. Our goal is to integrate the entire investigative mission of the Police by ensuring that the unbroken chain of response remains unbroken.
The Eskilstuna Local Police Area is part of the Södermanland Police Area. Within the local police area, there are intervention and crime prevention activities, investigation groups, traffic operations, as well as support and service.
We are now looking for someone interested in working as a part-time arrest guard. As a part-time employee with us, you will have an intermittent employment. This means you will be employed for each individual work shift and receive financial compensation per hour.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The work in the detention center is carried out in collaboration with the other operations of the police area. You will handle and meet individuals who have been deprived of their freedom for various reasons. Many are deprived of their freedom for the purpose of investigating crimes, but it can also involve shorter detentions due to intoxication. The arrest guard is the person with whom the detainee has the closest contact during their stay as a detainee in the detention facility, and the work is conducted under the supervision of a station commander.
Your tasks will include:
- Assisting the intervention operations during reception and searches
- Monitoring and supervising those in the detention facility
- Administrative tasks, such as documentation related to the detention, DNA sampling, fingerprinting, and photographing, urine sampling, and database checks
- Taking police reports and documenting in the police's data systems
- Assisting with transports to court hearings and monitoring assignments at, for example, hospitals
The pace of work varies over time and depends on how many individuals are subject to different types of deprivation of liberty or who visit the reporting unit. The work requires a professional approach and an attitude characterized by respect for everyone's equal value. You must also have good health and physical conditions as the work requires you to act physically at certain times. The work is conducted around the clock, every day of the year, which means irregular working hours and includes day/evening/night shifts on both weekdays and weekends.
You will undergo an introduction and training to be authorized to work as an arrest guard.
QUALIFICATIONS
This is an opportunity for you who have:
- A completed and approved high school education with full grades or equivalent education that the employer assesses as equivalent
- Experience working with individuals in vulnerable situations, from, for example, the Police Authority or Correctional Services, or experience in service work with extensive customer contact in areas that the employer assesses as relevant for the position
- Good computer skills
- Good ability to express yourself well in spoken and written Swedish and English
- A valid driver's license (B)
It is advantageous if you have:
- Completed the police's arrest guard training with a passing result
- Experience working as an arrest guard or similar
- Experience in administrative tasks that the employer assesses as relevant
Personal Qualities
The tasks require you to have the ability to make responsible and wise individual assessments. The work can at times be stressful and psychologically demanding, which requires you to have achieved personal maturity and be able to maintain good prioritization skills and act rationally and professionally even under pressure. The work is also physically demanding, which requires you to have good physical condition. We prefer that you are empathetic and understanding, but you should also be able to set boundaries and follow decisions. You have a high sense of service and the ability to build good relationships with both the public and colleagues. It is also important that you are meticulous, flexible, and enjoy working in an environment where you handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
We will place great emphasis on personal qualities.
