The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is expanding – we are building new facilities, renovating, and adding on, and we are now looking for more employees. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society will be safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, detention centers, and client transport.

Mariefred Prison is located in Strängnäs municipality, about 2 km outside of Mariefred. There is no public transport to the prison, so if you rely on public transport, the nearest bus station is about 2 km away, which is approximately a 30-minute walk. If you commute by train, you can bring your bicycle and use the bike path to the prison. If you drive, there is staff parking available adjacent to the prison.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Secure a summer substitute position at Mariefred Prison now.

Do you want to contribute to a safer society? As a correctional officer in a prison, you are the foundation of the security work. You work in a team with other professionals to maintain a safe and secure environment and to motivate clients towards a life without crime. Daily tasks include locking and unlocking residential rooms, searching premises, and supervision, as well as providing counseling and preparing for release, among other things. The role of a correctional officer involves a structured and routine-based approach with a focus on risk assessment and security awareness.

Working as a correctional officer means you can make a difference for other people and contribute to a better society. To thrive and succeed in your role, it is important that you share the fundamental values of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service regarding a humane view of humanity, respect for the individual, and the belief that people can develop. QUALIFICATIONS

We place great emphasis on your personal suitability. You are secure, stable, have good self-awareness, sound judgment, and integrity. You enjoy working together with others and communicate clearly. You share our belief that people can develop and change. Furthermore, you should have good physical fitness and be able to act physically when required.

We are looking for candidates who have:

  • Work experience, including seasonal work, part-time employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not equivalent to employment.
  • Complete upper secondary education or other education combined with work experience that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service deems relevant.
  • The ability to express yourself well in spoken and written Swedish.

It is an advantage if you have:

  • Work experience from corrections, security work, service work, psychiatry, or healthcare and social care.
  • Knowledge in relevant areas, such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, and conflict management.
  • A valid driver's license (B).
  • Relevant language skills.
