Assistant Professor in Experimental Pharmacology

The work is located at the Department of Pharmacology within the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology. Approximately 45 people work at the department, including eight full-time teachers, five of whom are in the field of pharmacology and three in the field of pharmacy. The department offers teaching at both basic and advanced levels within most of Sahlgrenska Academy's programs as well as doctoral education. Teaching is conducted in Swedish and English.
The research at the department covers several subject areas, all related to pharmacology. As an assistant professor at the Department of Pharmacology, the salary (100%) as well as the rent for office and laboratory space are funded by the department. There is also access to the department's shared equipment and the possibility of assistance from a laboratory assistant funded by the department. An externally recruited assistant professor will also receive a start-up grant of 1 million SEK from Sahlgrenska Academy.

Job Responsibilities
The holder of the position will conduct experimental research related to the subject. The research should have great potential to generate external funding. Research constitutes the most important and extensive task. The holder of the position should also be able to teach in Swedish and/or English at both basic and advanced levels in all programs where pharmacology is part of the teaching, i.e., most programs at Sahlgrenska Academy. In addition, the holder of the position should be able to teach courses offered within doctoral education. The holder of the position should also be able to supervise students at the bachelor's and master's levels as well as doctoral students in the subject. As the holder of the position, one may also be required to perform certain common administrative tasks for the department, primarily course leadership but also departmental and academy-wide tasks.
The holder of the position who lacks higher education pedagogical training must undergo such training within one year from the start of the employment.
For promotion, it is required that the applicant has acquired the ability to master Swedish in writing and speech at least at level B2 according to the CEFR at least six months before the assistant professorship expires. Gothenburg University will offer Swedish courses that are mandatory within the framework of the employment. Other requirements set by Sahlgrenska Academy for promotion must also be met.
Eligibility
Eligibility for employment as an assistant professor is regulated by the Higher Education Ordinance and Gothenburg University's employment regulations.
Eligible for employment as an assistant professor is one who has obtained a doctoral degree in what the employer assesses as a relevant field or has equivalent scientific competence. Primarily, the one who has obtained a doctoral degree or has reached equivalent competence no more than seven years before the application period for the position of assistant professor has expired should be considered. However, those who have obtained a doctoral degree or have achieved equivalent competence earlier may also be considered if there are special reasons. Special reasons refer to leave due to illness, parental leave, or other similar circumstances. Reasons, dates, and extent of absence must be clearly specified in the application and substantiated with certificates.
The ability to teach in Swedish or English is a requirement.
Employment
Fixed-term employment for 4 years, full-time (100%). Placement at the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology. Start date by agreement.
An employment as an assistant professor is fixed-term and defined as a merit-based position. The purpose of the employment is to provide the applicant with the opportunity to develop their independence as a researcher and to qualify both scientifically and pedagogically to meet the requirements for eligibility as a university lecturer. The employment may be renewed, but for a maximum of two additional years, if due to illness, parental leave, or other special reasons, additional time is required to achieve the purpose of the employment. The requirements for promotion to university lecturer are based on the assessment criteria established by the Faculty Board of Sahlgrenska Academy.
