The Department of Clinical Sciences is one of six departments at the Sahlgrenska Academy at Gothenburg University. The department conducts research and education focused on human health and quality of life. We represent 16 different subject areas (divisions) and are divided into four sections. Through enriching collaboration with healthcare and Sahlgrenska University Hospital, we have developed joint projects and meeting places that benefit both care and research.

At the Department of Medical Radiation Science, teaching (including within the hospital physicist program) and research in fundamental radiation knowledge and medical applications of radiation are conducted.

Job Responsibilities

The job responsibilities include research in medical radiation physics for at least half of the working time. Furthermore, it includes actively seeking external funding to establish your own research line and developing research collaborations within and outside the department at national and international levels.

The job responsibilities also include teaching and administration primarily within the hospital physicist program at undergraduate and advanced levels. Supervision of students and doctoral candidates is also included, as well as participation in the development of teaching components. Administration primarily includes course administration.

The employee who lacks higher education pedagogical training must undergo such training within one year from the start of employment.

For promotion, it is required that the applicant has acquired the ability to master Swedish in writing and speaking at least at level B2 according to the CEFR no later than six months before the assistant professorship expires. Gothenburg University will offer Swedish courses that are mandatory as part of the employment.

Eligibility

Eligibility for employment as an assistant professor is regulated by the Higher Education Ordinance and Gothenburg University's employment regulations.

Eligible for employment as an assistant professor is one who has obtained a doctoral degree in medical radiation physics or another subject that the employer assesses as equivalent for the position or has equivalent scientific competence. Primarily, the one who has obtained a doctoral degree or has reached equivalent competence no more than seven years before the application period for the position as an assistant professor has expired should be considered. However, those who have obtained a doctoral degree or have achieved equivalent competence earlier may also be considered if there are special reasons. Special reasons refer to leave due to illness, parental leave, or other similar circumstances. Reasons, dates, and extent of absence must be clearly specified in the application and substantiated with certificates.

The ability to teach in English is a requirement.

Additional eligibility requirements are a hospital physicist degree or equivalent.

Employment

Fixed-term employment for 5 years, full-time (100%). Placement at the Department of Clinical Sciences. Start date according to agreement.

An employment as an assistant professor is fixed-term and defined as a merit-based position. The purpose of the employment is to provide the applicant with the opportunity to develop their independence as a researcher and to qualify both scientifically and pedagogically to meet the requirements for eligibility as a university lecturer. The employment may be renewed, but for a maximum of two additional years, if due to illness, parental leave, or other special reasons, additional time is required to achieve the purpose of the employment. The requirements for promotion to university lecturer are based on the assessment criteria developed by the faculty board of the Sahlgrenska Academy.
