JOB DESCRIPTION

As a correctional officer, you can contribute to a safer society. You will work in teams with other professionals and have the opportunity to help people break the vicious cycle and motivate them not to reoffend. Clear routines are a natural part of your daily work. You will be the one to open the cell door in the morning and lock it in the evening. You will accompany clients to work and education, search and supervise the exercise yard and training facilities. You will also have daily contact with clients to know how they are doing and be part of the release preparations. It is important that you share the fundamental values of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service regarding a humane view of humanity, respect for the individual, and the belief that people can develop and change.

Working in a prison is varied; care, surveillance, searching, and security work are mixed with release planning and conversation and motivation work. The employment starts with a 2-week local introduction at the prison. There is an opportunity for seasonal employment.

QUALIFICATIONS

Your personal qualities are important. As a correctional officer, you need to be secure, stable, have good self-awareness, sound judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you will drive the operations, so you need to have good collaboration skills and be clear in your communication. You should be able to act physically when required.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Work experience, including seasonal work, hourly employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not considered equivalent to employment.
  • Completed upper secondary education or other education combined with work experience that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service deems relevant.
  • Good knowledge of the Swedish language in both spoken and written form.
  • Good computer skills.

It is meritorious if you have:

  • Work experience in correctional services, security work, social care, psychiatry, or health and social care.
  • Knowledge in relevant areas, such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, and conflict management.
  • Relevant language skills.
  • A valid driver's license (B).
