Swedish Prison and Probation Service is Growing – Join Us!
We are looking for more employees as we expand our facilities. Our primary goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society will be safer for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation services, remand centers, and client transport.
The Vänersborg area consists of two prisons in Vänersborg and a remand center in Uddevalla. Östragård Prison is an open facility with space for 192 clients. Brinkeberg Prison is a closed facility with space for 144, and the remand center in Uddevalla has 57 places. We have a diverse operation, employing correctional officers, administrators, nurses, cooks, teachers, production leaders, managers, and more. We are a modern authority offering development opportunities and challenges where you can help shape the future.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
As a correctional officer, you will be part of a team where you have daily contact with clients. The tasks at the prison are varied: care, surveillance, searches, and security work are mixed with release planning and conversation/motivation work. Work at the remand center is often routine-oriented and focused on care and security tasks. Clients may be detained for long periods without meeting anyone other than their lawyer and the staff at the remand center, which places special demands on you as a correctional officer.
Working as a correctional officer means you can make a difference for others and contribute to a better society. To thrive and succeed in your role, it is important that you share the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's fundamental values of a humane view of humanity, respect for the individual, and belief in human development.
QUALIFICATIONS
Your personal qualities are important. As a correctional officer, you need to be secure, stable, have good self-awareness, sound judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you will drive the operation, so you need to have good teamwork skills and be clear in your communication. You should be able to act physically when required.
We are looking for candidates who have:
- Work experience, including seasonal work, part-time employment, or self-employment. Internship and volunteer work are not considered equivalent to employment.
- Completed high school education or other education combined with work experience deemed relevant by the Swedish Prison and Probation Service.
- Good knowledge of the Swedish language in both speech and writing.
- Good computer skills.
- Driving license B.
It is advantageous if you have:
- Work experience from the Swedish Prison and Probation Service.
- Work experience in security work, social care, psychiatry, or health and social care.
- Knowledge in relevant fields, such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, and conflict management.
- Relevant language skills.
