The Clinic for Anesthesia, Surgery, and Intensive Care operates at NUS in Umeå. The clinic provides emergency and planned surgical care, anesthesia, postoperative care, intensive care for children and adults, as well as sterilization services at the regional level. The clinic is also responsible for air-based intensive care in the northern region, Swedish Air Ambulance's nurses at the Umeå base, and for conducting research, development, and education.

Swedish Air Ambulance (KSA) launched a new national air ambulance service in November 2021, in collaboration with Region Västerbotten. The purpose of the service is to streamline air ambulance operations to increase patient benefit and safety through the coordination of shared resources. The service provides air ambulance transport around the clock, year-round for the entire country. The aircraft are specially adapted for air ambulance care and are stationed at three bases: Arlanda, Landvetter, and Umeå.

JOB DESCRIPTION

As a specialist nurse with us, you contribute knowledge and commitment that makes people feel safe.

You will work part-time for the air operations and be clinically active for at least 25% in anesthesia and/or intensive care at NUS or at another hospital in one of Sweden's regions, preferably with frequent care of patients with sepsis, head injuries, acute heart disease, neurological disorders, or extensive traumatic injuries.

You will work under the medical leadership of the healthcare provider Region Västerbotten. The daily tasks as a nurse involve planning the daily program in collaboration with the coordination center and being responsible for the transport of regular patients in air ambulances, both children and adults. You will collaborate with pilots, other medical teams, and ambulance personnel. You are the face of Swedish Air Ambulance, both towards patients, regions, and other stakeholders.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone with specialist training in anesthesia and/or intensive care and at least three years of professional experience in your specialty. In addition, you will receive training in aviation medicine with a special focus on the transport of critically ill and injured patients. You will also undergo flight operations-related training. Experience from previous work in air ambulance services or air ambulances, as well as training in aviation medicine, is an advantage.

Working as an air nurse means you work closely with the flying crew. On the majority of flights, you will be the only nurse on board, so you need to be able to work independently and solution-oriented. At the same time, you recognize the importance of good teamwork, you are flexible to rapidly changing circumstances, and you have the ability to make decisions in pressured situations.

To perform the job, you need to have good physical health, normal vision, hold a valid driver's license (B), present a clean criminal record, and have a passport issued in the EU without restrictions. You must be fluent in Swedish or Scandinavian and have sufficient proficiency in English to use it in your work.

You will have dual work locations, one at the hospital and the other at the airbase.
