Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society will be safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, detention centers, and client transport.

The Saltvik area includes the prisons Saltvik, Härnösand, and Ljustadalen, as well as the Saltvik detention center. Within the area, there is a wide range from the open women's prison Ljustadalen to the closed prison Saltvik, which in addition to normal departments also has one of the country's three security units. The prison in Härnösand is also a closed facility. The largest professional group is correctional officers, but we also have healthcare professionals, administrative staff, educators, production leaders, and more. The inmates are engaged in education, various treatment programs, or work within the prison's packaging/assembly, laundry, or carpentry. You can easily reach the Saltvik prison and detention center by bus or car and park in our staff parking. The Härnösand prison is located in the town center with good bus connections and staff parking. The Ljustadalen prison is just outside Birsta and also offers staff parking and good bus connections.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

In the role of correctional officer, you are present where it happens and contribute to stability in a complex everyday life where you can make a difference for others and contribute to a better society. To thrive and succeed in your role, it is important that you share Kriminalvården's fundamental values of a humane view of people, respect for the individual, and the belief that people can develop. You will start your employment with us with a three-week introduction.

As a correctional officer in the Saltvik area, you have daily contact with the client. You also have close collaboration with colleagues and other professional groups to create a safe and secure environment. The tasks at the prison and detention center are varied and include care, surveillance, searches, security, conversation/motivation work, and planning for the client's execution. In the detention center, clients may be held for a long time without meeting anyone other than their lawyer and the staff at the detention center, which places special demands on you as a correctional officer. Here, you will use both your calmness and your understanding of people to contribute to order and routine.

QUALIFICATIONS

Your personal qualities are important to us. As a correctional officer, you need to be secure, stable, and have good self-awareness. Since you and your colleagues run the operations, you need to have good collaboration skills and the ability to be clear in your communication. In your professional practice, good judgment and integrity are required. You must have a physical condition that enables you to act physically when the situation requires.

We are looking for someone who has:

• Work experience, including seasonal work, temporary employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not considered equivalent to employment.
• Completed upper secondary education or other education in combination with work experience that Kriminalvården deems relevant.
• Good knowledge of the Swedish language in both speech and writing.
• Good computer skills.

It is an advantage if you have:

• Work experience from correctional services, security work, educational work, social care, psychiatry, or healthcare and social work.
• Education in relevant fields, such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, and conflict management.
• Relevant language skills.
• Driving license B.

OTHER

Kriminalvården has chosen to remove the personal letter and replaced it with selection questions that are relevant to the position. The answers to the selection questions and CV will form the basis for whether you are qualified to proceed in the process.
