Do you want to contribute to a sustainable and efficient water and sewage system for the residents of Lerum? As a Water Engineer GIS at Lerum Municipality, you will work closely with the operations and be part of a team that values collaboration and development!

Lerum Municipality is known for its scenic locations with lakes and forests. The municipality has 3,200 employees and 43,000 residents but expects to grow significantly in the coming years. Lerum is only a 20-minute commute from Gothenburg and is currently undergoing an intensive development period with many exciting projects underway, ranging from schools to housing. The municipality works to ensure good service, high welfare, and a thriving business climate.

Dagens Samhälle has recently named Lerum the winner in the category of metropolitan municipalities (2025) - an award based on a comprehensive comparison of 290 Swedish municipalities in areas such as education, healthcare, economy, culture and leisure, attractiveness, business, and future factors like digitalization and civil preparedness. We are now a Super Municipality!

About the workplace

In the Community Building Sector, we gather those who work with planning, construction, infrastructure, environment, and technical services. We work together to create long-term sustainable and attractive living environments for the residents of Lerum Municipality. As a Water Engineer GIS, you will be part of the strategic community planning and the development work currently underway. The sector is fully implementing a new working method where we collaborate and take a holistic perspective.

The Water and Sewage Unit is responsible for the municipal water and sewage operations in Lerum Municipality. This includes the production and distribution of drinking water as well as the diversion and treatment of wastewater for approximately 30,000 people.

To meet the future, the Water Planning Unit needs to strengthen its team with a Water/GIS Engineer. Currently, we are 13 people based in Stenkullen, close to public transport and about a 20-minute commute from both Gothenburg and Alingsås. We are part of the Water operations, and within the unit, we are responsible for long-term planning, investigations, water competence in projects and detailed plans, subscriber and fee issues, and the water map that we currently have in the Water Bank. With us, you will have the opportunity to help create a sustainable society and work for the benefit of our residents. We offer you a varied and flexible working environment with great opportunities for personal development.

Job responsibilities

As a Water Engineer with a focus on GIS, you will have the opportunity to work in a developing organization both within the Water operations and in collaboration with other parts of the Community Building Sector, especially the GIS unit. You will manage and be responsible for the Water Bank and work both strategically and operationally in close dialogue with users and suppliers to optimize and develop the use of the system. You will work on both long-term planning and daily tasks that arise.

Your main job responsibilities include:

  • System management, operation, maintenance, and development of the mapping system, Water Bank
  • Development issues related to digitalization based on the needs of the operations
  • System and information security work
  • Support for users of the Water Bank

Depending on your skills and interests, other responsibilities and tasks may also be relevant.

THIS IS WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for someone with a university degree in GIS, Water Technology, or equivalent education that the employer deems equivalent. You have at least a few years of experience working with mapping systems and GIS analyses. Particularly meritorious is if you have previously worked with the ArcGIS and FME platforms or the Water Bank.

Since you will be writing and handling documentation, you need to be fluent in both spoken and written Swedish. To move freely between different operations, a B driver's license is required.

Experience in municipal water operations is also meritorious. We value an interest and commitment to environmental and community building issues and technology.

Personal qualities:

As a person, you are self-driven, unpretentious, attentive, and structured. You are proactive, can collaborate across boundaries, are communicative, and have the ability to create engagement and participation.
