Do you want to work with a sustainable and secure water and sewage system for the residents of Lerum? As a water engineer, you will plan, investigate, and develop the water and sewage operations in a team that values collaboration and long-term solutions.
Lerum Municipality is known for its scenic locations with lakes and forests. The municipality has 3,200 employees and 43,000 residents but expects to grow significantly in the coming years. Lerum is only a 20-minute commute from Gothenburg and is currently facing an intensive development period with many exciting projects underway, ranging from schools to housing. The municipality works to ensure good service, high welfare, and a thriving business climate. Dagens Samhälle has recently named Lerum the winner in the category of large urban municipalities (2025) - an award based on a comprehensive comparison of 290 Swedish municipalities in areas such as education, healthcare, economy, culture and leisure, attractiveness, business, and future factors like digitalization and civil preparedness. We are now a Super Municipality!
About the workplace
At the Community Building Sector, we gather those who work with planning, construction, infrastructure, environment, and technical services. We work together to create long-term sustainable and attractive living environments for the residents of Lerum Municipality. As a water engineer, you are part of the strategic community planning and the development work currently underway. The sector is fully implementing a new working method where we collaborate and take a holistic perspective.
The Water and Sewage Unit is responsible for the municipal water and sewage operations in Lerum Municipality. This includes the production and distribution of drinking water as well as the diversion and treatment of wastewater for approximately 30,000 people.
To meet the future, the water planning unit needs to strengthen its team with a water engineer. We currently have 13 people working in Stenkullen, close to public transport and about a 20-minute commute from both Gothenburg and Alingsås. With us, you will have the opportunity to help create a sustainable society and work for the benefit of our residents. We offer you a varied and flexible work environment with great opportunities for personal development.
Job responsibilities
As a water engineer, you will have the opportunity to work in a developing organization both within the water operations and in collaboration with the rest of the Community Building Sector. Your focus will be on the pipeline network where you will work closely with operations and daily activities as well as with more long-term, strategic issues.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Investigations related to inflow water
- Participation in detailed planning work
- Investigations for new connections and development
- Renewal planning for existing pipeline networks
- Strategic operation and maintenance planning
Depending on your skills and interests, other responsibilities and tasks may also become relevant.
THIS IS WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for someone who has a strong interest and commitment to environmental and community building issues and technology. You have a university degree in environmental science and water or equivalent education that the employer considers comparable. You have a good understanding of how water systems are designed and function through previous experience in, for example, water investigations, project planning, or other experience in municipal water operations.
Since you will be writing and managing documentation, you need to be fluent in speaking and writing Swedish. To move freely between different projects and operations in the municipality, a B driver's license is required.
Personal qualities:
As a person, you are self-driven, unpretentious, attentive, work in a structured manner, and thrive in a team. The position involves many different types of contact points and requires good communication skills.
Other
In this role, you may be subject to security screening conversations.
