Internal Medicine

The internal medicine clinic at Visby Hospital includes three wards with a total of 37 beds: general internal medicine, cardiology, and a stroke unit.

We are responsible for handling patients with acute internal medical diseases in the emergency department around the clock.

Specialist clinics are available in anticoagulation, endocrinology and diabetes, gastroenterology, hematology, cardiology, neurology, and rheumatology. The department employs 19 specialist physicians, most of whom are double specialists in internal medicine and another subspecialty, and currently has eleven residents. In addition to residents, we also welcome medical students and students from other healthcare-related educational programs.

We strive to contribute in the best possible way to providing good and qualitative internal medicine healthcare to patients in need of our help. We aim for a good working environment and high medical competence, which is realized through collaboration with colleagues, patients, other professions, and adjacent activities.

The communications between Visby and the rest of the country are good. Gotland is characterized by its beautiful nature, cultural historical environment, an active cultural life, a rich association life, and an increasing academic presence through Uppsala University Campus Gotland.

Your Responsibilities

As a resident in internal medicine, you will be trained to become a specialist physician in internal medicine in accordance with the Swedish Society of Internal Medicine's goals. There is an opportunity for profiling towards a subspecialty by agreement.

On-call duty is included. Parts of the specialization training take place on the mainland. The extent of training at another location depends on the choice of subspecialty and is decided in consultation with the supervisor and study director based on the goal description. A well-established collaboration exists with Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm.

Who Are You?

We see that you, as an applicant, are a licensed physician with a primary interest in internal medicine, and that you are also curious about one of its subspecialties. Experience in the medical profession and previous service as a clinically active physician in Sweden is a requirement.

You have good knowledge of the Swedish language.

Before a hiring decision is made, a background check will be conducted through an extract from the criminal record.
