At the Department of Biology and Environmental Science (BioEnv), there is educational and research activity that ranges from the ecosystems of the mountain world, through forests, land, and waterways, all the way out to the sea. In these environments, we work with different biological organizational levels from genes, through individuals and populations to communities and ecosystems. We work within ecology, evolution, physiology, systematics, and combinations of these subject areas to understand the significance of natural and human-induced environmental changes.

The department's activities are conducted in two different locations, GU's premises in Natrium at Medicinaregatan 7B in Gothenburg, and at the Kristineberg Marine Research Station operated by the Marine Infrastructure at Gothenburg University. The current position is located at Medicinaregatan 7B.

Subject

Ecology and aquatic conservation biology. Conservation biology deals with the preservation of endangered natural environments and species. The subject is interdisciplinary and spans from fundamental biological relationships to management, legislation, and political decisions.

Job Responsibilities

The work includes teaching primarily in aquatic conservation biology but also in more general ecological areas. The work includes developing teaching within the subject, supervising theses. The position also includes a task to be the program coordinator for undergraduate education in biology.

Qualifications

Qualifications for employment as a teacher are regulated in the Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 4 and Gothenburg University's employment regulations.

Eligible for employment as a university lecturer is someone who has demonstrated pedagogical skill, has completed higher education at least at the advanced level, or has equivalent competence or any other skill that is significant in relation to the subject content of the position and the tasks that will be included in the employment.

Documented experience of teaching at the university level in aquatic conservation biology is a requirement as well as a very good ability to express oneself in both English and Swedish.

Assessment Criteria

Deep knowledge of conservation biology and management of aquatic environments as well as previous experience of teaching and organizing teaching at the university level is a requirement, as well as a doctoral degree in a relevant field. Experience in leadership, planning, and development of university education, as well as experience with the university's electronic learning platform CANVAS, is meritorious. Experience of governmental work in conservation and management is also meritorious.

Employment

The employment is a fixed-term position for 12 months, 50% scope. Placement at the Department of Biology and Environmental Science with access as soon as possible.
