About Us

The libraries in Solna have many visitors every day. Solna City Library consists of several units, the library in Solna Center, the library in Bergshamra, the school and public library at Ulriksdal School, and our rolling bicycle library. 24 people work at Solna City Library, and our mission is to provide our visitors with the best possible library service based on governing documents and assignments in the city's library plan.

Solna City Library is an HBTQI-certified library and also a Roma reading ambassador. We prioritize collaboration with other units in the city.

What Does the Job Involve?

The work is primarily located at the library in Solna Center, but one day a week you will work at Bergshamra Library.

At Solna City Library, we work all-round. Everyone has their focus area but works from a holistic perspective on the operations. Therefore, you should enjoy working in an organization where staff are not divided into categories in the traditional sense. We all help each other fulfill the assignments we have, so it is important that you are prepared to take on the tasks that arise.

The library receives many visits from both preschools and schools in the area. We offer a wide and lively program for children, young people, and adults. You will be part of one of our three development groups. The position includes promoting reading for children and young people, but work for other target groups, such as seniors, may also be included in the assignment.

In Solna, there is a long tradition of highlighting various cultural expressions and Solna's cultural environments in different contexts. Your focus area will be to deepen and further develop this work in a pedagogical way, for example through tours for different groups, and you will largely work outward and proactively.

You Will:

• Help inspire children to a love of reading and cultural experiences both in and outside the library.
• Staff the reception and information desks and provide service to our visitors.
• Be involved in the daily library work, such as book shelving and registration of new arrivals.
• Contribute to creating an inclusive and pleasant environment at the library.

NOTE: Evening and weekend shifts according to schedule are included.

Who Are We Looking For?

We are looking for someone who has:

• a degree in library and information science
• experience in pedagogical work
• experience in promoting reading for prioritized target groups, preferably with a focus on children with disabilities
• experience in working with diversity perspectives
• good knowledge of children's and youth literature
• good ability to communicate well in Swedish, both spoken and written.

It is an advantage if you have:

• the ability to communicate in languages other than Swedish
• previous experience in library work
• previous experience working in the cultural sector, tourism, or as a guide
• previous experience receiving children's groups.
