Department of Clinical Sciences

The University Animal Hospital offers an internship for veterinarians looking to develop in equine healthcare!

About the Job

This internship is a clinically supervised training program intended for relatively newly graduated veterinarians.

You will primarily work in the care department. Rotations will occur within inpatient care and emergency services focusing on medicine and surgery. Shorter rotations in diagnostic imaging, anesthesia, clinical chemistry, and outpatient services are planned throughout the year. As it is an event-driven operation with emergency services, clinical demand may vary.

The work will mainly involve simpler, but as the program progresses, also more qualified veterinary tasks. After completing the program, you will have a foundation in clinical investigation work, inpatient care, emergency care, and the basics of diagnostic imaging, preparing you for continued work at an equine clinic or to apply for a residency.

You will be part of a large group of experienced colleagues, many of whom are either European or Swedish specialists in various fields, providing you with the opportunity for in-depth clinical experience and guidance in various aspects.

You will participate in daily rounds in the care unit, in “Journal clubs” in areas such as internal medicine, surgery, and anesthesia, diagnostic imaging rounds, and will be involved in a research project, expected to write a scientific article under supervision.

The position includes independent on-call work, with working hours scheduled for evenings, nights, and weekends, depending on your level of training.

At the Department of Clinical Sciences and the University Animal Hospital, education and research are conducted. Therefore, the position includes mentoring future veterinarians and veterinary nurses and assisting with research.

With us, you will contribute to positive development in a university environment that is rich in knowledge across many areas. You will operate in a dynamic world with clinical challenges at the forefront of research.

Your Background

We are looking for a licensed veterinarian or a temporary veterinarian with permission to work in Sweden. You are experienced with horses and have a particular interest in equine healthcare.

As a person, you are organized, structured, motivated, and have integrity. You value good collaboration with colleagues and actively contribute to good relationships within the entire faculty. You have good communication and social skills, recognize the importance of maintaining good customer contacts, and interact with pet owners in a professional manner. You know you can handle periods of higher workloads and adjust your pace accordingly. You are a good team player and prioritize the overall operations of the equine clinic over your own unit. We will place great emphasis on your personal abilities.
