Study to become a teacher for grades 4-6 while working!
The Teacher Education Department at Umeå University, in collaboration with seven (7) municipal school authorities in the northern region, will launch the second round of work-integrated teacher education focused on grades 4-6 in the fall of 2026. The program is aimed at those who wish to work 50 percent with students at a school while simultaneously training to become a qualified primary school teacher for grades 4-6.
The Primary Teacher Program for grades 4-6 consists of 240 higher education credits and spans over 5 years, including two summer courses. The education is offered remotely with a study pace of 75 percent. Two days a week (Thursdays and Fridays) are reserved for scheduled studies, while three days (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday) are available for scheduled work. The program includes several physical meetings each term, which usually take place at Umeå University.
The municipality of Övertorneå is one of the municipalities that have created positions for those who want to study to become teachers for grades 4-6 while working. Welcome to apply! You will need to submit two applications; one for the position and one for the education via Umeå University. The teaching position will be placed at one of our municipal primary schools.

The application for the education is open from February 16 to March 16. The final date to complete your qualifications is April 7.
Job Responsibilities
You will teach as an unqualified teacher in grades 4-6. The assignment involves planning, implementing, and following up on teaching together with colleagues and work teams. Contact and collaboration with guardians is an important part of the work. You will have a mentor to support you in your work at the school.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone who is interested in working and studying to become a teacher for grades 4-6. Previous experience working with children/youth is an advantage. In your role as a teacher, it is important to build good relationships with your students and to be a clear leader. You have good communication skills and collaborate well with colleagues and other contacts. Combining work with studies requires you to be structured, self-driven, and persistent.
