Job Advertisement: Summer Job with Children at the Swedish Red Cross

The Swedish Red Cross operates treatment centers for war-injured and tortured individuals at five locations in Sweden: Skövde, Uppsala, Gothenburg, Malmö, and Skellefteå. The goal of the Swedish Red Cross treatment centers is to provide support and care to individuals who have been exposed to war trauma and torture, enabling them to regain their mental and physical health. In addition to clinical treatment work, we spread knowledge by offering training and information to various target groups, both externally and internally.

We are now looking for a person who has experience working with children and who wants to work on the planning, implementation, and follow-up of summer camps and summer activities for children in our target group.

About the Position

The Swedish Red Cross Treatment Center in Malmö provides treatment for traumatized refugees with residence permits as well as asylum seekers and undocumented individuals. Our team includes psychologists, physiotherapists, interpreters, social workers, administrators, the manager responsible for children's activities, and doctors.

In the Children's Program, we work to reduce the vulnerability of children in families traumatized by war. The children we meet often have their own traumatic experiences, and we know that in all cases where children live with a relative who has war and torture traumas, there is a risk that the children will develop trauma symptoms from their relative. We work to empower the children and find ways for them to feel good, to strengthen the parents in their parenting role, and to enhance relationships within the family.

The work during the summer primarily focuses on:

  • Planning, implementation, and follow-up of summer camps and summer activities
  • Coordination, recruitment, and training of volunteers who will participate during the summer
  • Coordination of participants for the various summer activities

You will mainly work independently during the summer to plan and lead the camp and activities, but with support from the program manager, as well as together with other staff at the treatment center, the volunteers, and relevant partners.

You will have the opportunity to be part of a developing team! The position also offers a chance for experience and knowledge exchange with wise and experienced colleagues from various professional backgrounds and the opportunity to contribute to one of the world's leading disaster organizations.

Goal-oriented working hours apply. Evening and weekend work is included in the position. During certain periods, there will be a high workload, especially during the summer camps taking place from June 22 to July 1, when you will also be required to stay overnight. The same applies during the training weekend for volunteers on June 6-7.

At other times, the work is scheduled during the day at the Swedish Red Cross office in Malmö.

About You:

  • Ongoing or completed relevant post-secondary education or equivalent experience
  • A genuine interest in the target group and experience working with children
  • Experience in camp activities
  • Good ability to express oneself verbally and in writing in Swedish and English
  • Driver's license and good driving experience

It is also advantageous if you:

  • Are multilingual
  • Have experience in project management and independent work
  • Have previous experience working with children and youth with primary or secondary traumatization
  • Have experience in the non-profit/volunteer sector

Since the work requires independent work, you need to be responsible, self-motivated, and have a well-developed ability to drive your own work forward. You are solution-focused and good at collaborating with others. You who apply share the values of the Swedish Red Cross.

Great importance will be placed on personal suitability.

Other Information

The position is a fixed-term employment where you will work full-time during the summer and part-time during the spring according to the following schedule: (20% April 13-30, 50% May 1-31, and 100% June 1-August 14).

If you have questions about the position, you are warmly welcome to contact the program manager Elin Magnusson, who can be reached at: [email protected]

We welcome your application by February 27.

The Swedish Red Cross strives to be an inclusive organization with employees who contribute to diversity in perspective, experience, and background. We believe this makes us more relevant. Therefore, we are happy to recruit individuals with diverse ethnic and social backgrounds, gender identities and expressions, beliefs, ages, abilities, and sexual orientations.

Our recruitment process begins with an initial selection based on an established requirement profile and is followed by interviews and, in some cases, online tests, as well as background checks and reference checks.

As the Swedish Red Cross is part of the "Inter-Agency Scheme for the Disclosure of Safeguarding-related Misconduct" to protect our sector from sexual abuse, we ask specific questions regarding this to your references. Final candidates may also be screened against EU and UN sanctions lists.

Please visit our career page to get to know the Swedish Red Cross a little better. Here you will also find information about terms, our culture, and contact details for the union clubs represented with us.
