Role Summary
We’re looking for exceptional engineers who combine a passion for vehicles with strong analytical and data-driven modelling skills, and who can use data and physics to make vehicles behave intelligently. Our unit - Performance & Analysis - within the Motion Control area and the Transport Efficiency section, works at the intersection of vehicle physics, data science and early-stage algorithm development. We investigate how vehicles, drivers and fleets operate in real transport missions, identify opportunities for improved energy and operational efficiency, and translate these findings into data-driven, predictive functions that aim to make vehicles behave smarter and support the driver more intelligently.
Understanding and modelling driver behaviour is an important part of our work, enabling concepts that adapt to driving style, transport mission, vehicle state and operational context.
At the section level, Transport Efficiency covers domains such as intelligent driver support, predictive operation (using look-ahead information such as road topology, curvature or speed limits), route planning, vehicle-level speed optimization, and more. Our team contributes to these areas by uncovering insights from operational data, modelling system and driver behaviour, and formulating early functional concepts for onboard and offboard execution.
Job Responsibilities
- Analyze vehicle, driver, mission, and fleet data to improve energy and operational efficiency.
- Model driver behavior and vehicle–driver interaction for early control and decision-support concepts.
- Build predictive algorithms using ML, statistics, and physics-based reasoning.
- Define onboard/offboard decision support for context-aware, anticipatory behavior (incl. look-ahead).
- Design robust data pipelines and reproducible experimentation workflows.
- Apply vehicle physics to feature engineering, model design, interpretation, and feasibility.
- Evaluate concepts with data-driven methods and targeted modelling when needed.
- Support predictive operations, routing, and energy/charging analyses.
- Collaborate with implementation teams on constraints, architecture, and roadmap alignment.
- Communicate insights and proposals to support engineering decisions across domains.
Who You Are
You enjoy combining data-driven modelling with engineering intuition. You naturally think in terms of vehicle behavior, driver behavior, physics, energy flows and operational constraints, and you use data to validate and extend that understanding.
You thrive in pre-development, where problems are not yet fully defined and where your analytical insights shape the direction of future intelligent vehicle functions. You value clarity, collaboration and sound engineering principles.
Required:
- Master’s degree or PhD in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or similar.
- Strong programming skills in Python, with experience in ML/AI frameworks such as scikit-learn, PyTorch or TensorFlow.
- Expertise in predictive modelling, time-series analysis, statistical learning or data-driven control.
- Ability to apply vehicle physics, mechanical principles and energy-flow understanding in data analysis and concept development.
- Experience working with large, complex real-world datasets and modern data engineering practices.
Meriting:
- Experience with vehicle dynamics, energy modelling, transport mission analysis or charging/energy strategies.
- Background in control theory, robotics, or autonomy-adjacent algorithm development.
- Experience in automotive, transport, robotics or heavy-vehicle domains.
- Understanding of onboard/offboard system architectures, vehicle compute environments and their constraints.
- Ability to translate complex findings into clear insights and actionable early-stage concepts.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across technical domains.
