About WaterAid

WaterAid Sweden is part of the international WaterAid federation. Together with over 1,500 colleagues, we operate in 30 countries with a clear mission: everyone, everywhere should have access to clean water, toilets and hygiene. WaterAid Sweden offers an inspiring, inclusive workplace with strong employee satisfaction, opportunities for development, generous wellness benefits and a hybrid policy enabling a sustainable balance between work and life.

Your role

You play a central role in expanding WaterAid Sweden’s institutional funding by identifying new funding opportunities and building strong, future-focused partnerships with institutional donors and foundations. You bring fresh ideas that strengthen the development of high-quality concept notes and proposals aligned with our core values and principles as well as donor expectations. You also contribute to effective programme delivery by collaborating closely with WaterAid’s Country Programmes, maintaining transparent donor relationships, and ensuring strong reporting and compliance throughout the grant cycle.

Your tasks:

  • Identify and prioritize new funding opportunities with institutional donors and foundations and nurture existing relationships.
  • Lead or contribute to concept notes and full proposals, coordinating inputs across global and country teams.
  • Build and maintain strong, strategic, future-focused partnerships with donors.
  • Manage a portfolio of contracts and ensure delivery as per contract and according to quality standards.
  • Harvest learnings from projects and contribute to overall analysis and learnings.
  • Support the communications team with country programme information to communicate storytelling and results in our external communication.

Personal qualities and qualifications

  • 3-5 years of proven experience in developing and managing strategic partnerships with institutional donors or foundations together with global teams.
  • Strong understanding of international development cooperation and institutional funding mechanisms, particularly in the Nordic region.
  • 3-5 years of documented experience in grants management, including monitoring, reporting, and donor compliance within an international organization.
  • Proven experience in concept note and application writing, translating complex information into clear proposals together with international teams.
  • Understanding of gender equality and a Human Rights–Based Approach (HRBA), and experience applying these principles in programme design, partnerships, or funding processes.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and work collaboratively to build and maintain constructive, trust-based relationships.
  • Fluency in English.

Additionally, it’s advantageous if you have:

  • Experience working within the WASH sector or related thematic areas.
  • Experience collaborating within an international federation and with global teams.
  • Proficiency in any of the Nordic languages.

Conditions for the position

This is a full-time position (38 hour work week). Start date according to agreement. A 6-month probation period applies, followed by permanent employment. WaterAid will not be able to sponsor your residence permit in Sweden and to be considered for this role, you must already have the right to work and reside in Sweden.

You report directly to the Head of Programme and Partnerships. WaterAid Sweden applies Fremia’s collective agreement. We have a generous hybrid policy enabling work both from our office in Stockholm and from home.

Safeguarding and background checks

WaterAid takes safeguarding very seriously. As part of the recruitment process, we conduct background checks on final candidates to help prevent the recruitment of individuals convicted of serious crimes such as violence and sexual abuse.
