Guard at the Royal Palace in Stockholm - Uppland Air Force Wing F 16

During parts of the summer of 2026, Uppland Air Force Wing F 16 will be responsible for the Guard at the Royal Palace in Stockholm. F 16 is now looking for soldiers who want to represent the Armed Forces and staff the palace with a temporary employment during the summer.

About the position

The Guard consists of those who protect the two royal palaces, the Royal Palace of Stockholm and Drottningholm Palace. The Guard is an important part of the protection of the palace and Stockholm's military readiness. Today, 50 to 60 women and men serve in the guard, of which 35 are at the Royal Palace of Stockholm. The Guard is staffed by soldiers and sailors from units across the country, and during parts of the summer of 2026, F 16 is responsible.

About the employment

The employment is valid during the period of weeks 25-29 in 2026, with reservations for minor changes. Initially, during weeks 25-26, a preparatory phase will take place at Uppsala Garrison. Thereafter, during weeks 26-28, the guard will be conducted, including conclusion and disbandment. Finally, during week 29, a leave of absence will be handled for earned leave during the period.

Main tasks

The Guard is an important part of military readiness in Stockholm and a sharp surveillance force for the protected object, the Royal Palace of Stockholm. In addition to sharp surveillance tasks, guard parades and guard changes are one of the Armed Forces' prioritized outward-facing activities with hundreds of thousands of spectators. As a soldier in the guard service, you will perform both ceremonial tasks and be part of the protection of the Royal Palace of Stockholm and the head of state. The days consist of around-the-clock duty with post shifts.

Qualifications

• Completed Swedish military basic training/conscription with a passing result
• Valid security guard training/valid security guard certificate

Personal qualities

We are looking for someone with a positive attitude. You have a high security awareness, are orderly, and have the ability to change pace at short notice when required. You can professionally act in the role of representative not only for F 16 but for the entire Armed Forces. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

MERITORIOUS

• Previously completed guard duty or other ceremonial service
• Driving license B
• Pistol training

Uppland Air Force Wing, F 16, is headquartered at Uppsala Garrison. The unit is part of the Swedish Air Force and is responsible for the operation and surveillance of Uppsala Airport as well as training conscripts in several different positions in the Air Force. The unit also leads the 161st Combat Control and Air Surveillance Battalion, which commands combat aircraft in the air and manages the continuous surveillance of Swedish airspace. The unit operates from several different locations in the country and constitutes an important part of the growth period that the Air Force is facing.
