Staff Officer to the Air Staff A5

The Swedish Armed Forces is in a dynamic growth period to build a stronger defense that can meet the deteriorating global situation. Within the air domain, this requires both new units and capabilities, where cutting-edge technology is a central part. This involves the introduction of new material systems, as well as the turnover and maintenance of older systems. The coordinating body for this is the Air Staff A5.

About the Position

The Air Force is in constant development. The Air Force's control system consists of air combat control, air surveillance, communication control, security units, and mobile sensor units. The global situation demands a high development pace of current and future capabilities. As a staff officer, you will actively participate in the process of this development. You will work closely with the Air Force's control units and the Air Combat School, as well as with other branches of the defense.

Main Responsibilities

  • Assist the War Unit Responsible (KFA) Control.
  • Participate in the development and formulation of the Air Force's control organization.
  • Lead, direct, plan, coordinate, and follow up on the functions of the control system.
  • Establish requirements and lead organizational and methodological trials.
  • Participate in exercises.
  • Monitor developments in the control area both nationally and internationally.
  • Engage in development work with international partners within the control function.
  • Address change needs.

The Swedish Armed Forces is growing, and the tasks may change over time.

REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications

  • Officer SO7 or OF2.
  • Good language skills in Swedish and English, both spoken and written.
  • Current and well-established knowledge of the Air Force's control organization.
  • Driving license B.

You are confident, stable, can work solution-oriented, and appreciate change work. You have strategic thinking where you can see the impact of details on a whole. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

Meritorious

  • Experience in development work within the Swedish Armed Forces.
  • Experience from staff work at unit level.
  • Experience from staff work at central level.

The primary and largest task of the Air Staff is to support the Air Force Chief's leadership of all squadrons and schools in the Air Force at all levels of the conflict scale. The Air Staff develops, plans, implements, and evaluates orders and directives issued by the Air Force Chief. The Air Staff consists of approximately 350 employees. The Air Force organizes and trains air, base, and command units and is tasked with monitoring and protecting Sweden's airspace. It is a mission that continues around the clock, year-round, to ensure Sweden's integrity. Approximately 5100 employees, both civilian and military, work within the Air Force.
