Become our new school lawyer in Flen Municipality!
WE WANT SWEDEN'S HAPPIEST RESIDENTS. ARE YOU WITH US?
In Flen Municipality, we are committed to building something long-term. A community where people thrive, grow, and stay. Our new and bold vision, Flen – Sweden's happiest municipality, is more than just words. It is a direction we have chosen together and a reminder of who we are here for. In every interaction with a resident, in every decision we make, in every everyday life we shape – we will think with our hearts. And it starts with us. We are now looking for a school lawyer for the Department of Children, Education, and Culture who wants to help create safe and legally secure conditions for all children and students in Flen.
HERE ARE YOUR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
As a school lawyer, you are the strategic and operational legal support for the principal. The position is located at the administrative office and reports to the head of administration.
You ensure that decisions, processes, and handling of cases within preschool and school are conducted in accordance with school legislation and other relevant regulations – even when the issues are complex, time-sensitive, or sensitive. You monitor the external environment and further develop guidelines and system support that create conditions for making clear decisions.
In this role, you will among other things:
- Provide qualified legal support to the school principal, principals, and administration in matters concerning authority, student rights, compulsory schooling, safety, and special support.
- Be legal support and handle supervision, complaint, and BEO cases.
- Quality assure the principal's governing documents, processes, and decision-making materials.
- Interpret new legal requirements and translate them into practically implementable working methods in the operations.
- Contribute to legally secure handling of documents, confidentiality, and documentation.
- Support the administration with legal materials and presentations to the board with clear pedagogical communication.
FOR THIS ROLE, YOU NEED TO:
- Have a law degree.
- Several years of experience working with school legal issues within an education administration or other equivalent authority.
- Have the ability to make legal assessments in complex cases.
- Have very good knowledge of the Education Act, the Administrative Procedure Act, and the Public Access to Information and Secrecy Act, as well as a good and practically applicable understanding of children's rights and the significance of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in school operations.
- Have a very good ability to express yourself in speech and writing in Swedish.
WE VALUE THE FOLLOWING HIGHLY:
- Experience working with supervision cases, for example with the School Inspectorate and the Children and Students Ombudsman, as well as handling complaints, discrimination cases, and investigations of bullying.
- Experience working in a politically governed organization.
- Experience training managers or politicians in legal matters.
- Experience in transition work and implementation of new regulations.
YOUR PERSONAL QUALITIES
We believe you are a person who is secure and judicious, and who can make independent legal assessments even when the issues are complex, sensitive, or politically charged. You have high integrity and stand firm in your professional role, while also being able to be receptive and constructive in dialogue with the school principal, principals, and other functions.
You are pedagogical and communicative and have an easy time translating legal matters into understandable and useful guidance for those without a legal background. In meetings with school leaders, employees, and sometimes even guardians, you can explain both what the law requires and what the scope for action is, in a way that creates trust and security.
The role also requires you to be structured, persistent, and meticulous, with a natural focus on legal security, documentation, and quality in processes. At the same time, you are solution-oriented and pragmatic – you do not get stuck in problem formulations but contribute realistic and legally sustainable paths forward in the operations.
You thrive in an advisory role close to operations where you build trust and good relationships with school leaders and employees. Through your way of working, you contribute to making law a support in everyday life and a natural part of the school's quality work. We place great importance on personal suitability.
WHY WORK WITH US?
In Flen Municipality, we want to give you good conditions to thrive both at work and outside of it. We offer, among other things, vacation exchange, wellness benefits, and compensation for patient fees up to high-cost protection – and there are more benefits than that.
