Subject/Subject Description

Data science involves using scientific methods, processes, and algorithms to generate insights and knowledge from data. It combines fields such as statistics, data processing, and machine learning to analyze large datasets and solve complex problems. The goal is to make data-driven decisions and create value by understanding patterns and trends in the information.

Job Responsibilities

The main responsibilities include research, teaching, course development, course management, and supervision, primarily in courses related to Data Science and Machine Learning. The holder is expected to strengthen the theoretical foundations and practical relevance of the courses.

The holder is expected, as part of the research group in data science, to enhance the group's theoretical and practical competencies, particularly regarding algorithmic methods for machine learning and their applications. This includes, for example, explainable machine learning, foundations of machine learning, time series analysis, graph mining, and large language models. Applications exist in areas such as health, predictive maintenance, and telecommunications.

The position is divided between research and teaching according to applicable terms and conditions.

Eligibility Requirements

Eligible for appointment as a university lecturer is one who has obtained a doctoral degree in computer and systems sciences, specializing in data science, or has equivalent scientific competence and demonstrated pedagogical skill.

The applicant must possess both the ability to collaborate and the suitability and competence necessary to perform the tasks well.

The applicant must have documented proficiency in using English in both spoken and written forms at a professional level. This can be demonstrated, for example, through documented experience of teaching in English.

Scientific skills are demonstrated through independent research.

Pedagogical skills are demonstrated through independent teaching and supervision at the undergraduate and advanced levels. The pedagogical skills must be well documented in a way that allows for the assessment of the quality of the pedagogical activities.

Great importance is also placed on a well-developed research plan during the employment period.

Significant weight is also given to documented ability to collaborate with colleagues and coworkers.

Importance is placed on successfully planning, applying for, and obtaining funding for research projects from external funders.

Importance is also placed on the applicant having a well-documented international academic profile, demonstrated through active international research collaborations and experience in international academic environments (e.g., joint projects, guest researcher positions, or participation in international networks and conferences).

Finally, importance is placed on administrative skills and the ability to interact with the surrounding community and to inform about research and development work.

Having a higher education pedagogical qualification of at least 7.5 higher education credits or equivalent knowledge acquired in other ways is meritorious.

About the Position

The position is permanent and full-time, with a start date to be agreed upon. A six-month probationary period applies.

The position includes competence and research time according to applicable terms and conditions.

Applicants lacking higher education pedagogical training of at least 15 higher education credits and who are not assessed to have acquired equivalent knowledge in other ways must undergo such training during the first two years of employment.

Additional Information

Proficiency in Swedish is not a requirement for the appointment, but the applicant should be prepared to take on administrative and pedagogical tasks that require understanding and use of Swedish within a couple of years if necessary.

As the Faculty of Social Sciences strives for a more balanced gender distribution among university lecturers, the department encourages women to apply for the position.
