The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now looking for more employees. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed in this, society will be safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, remand, and client transport.
The Legal Department is a national department at the headquarters of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service. The department is responsible for directing and driving the authority's work in legal matters, providing legal support at all levels of the authority, submitting opinions to various review bodies, making initial and reconsideration decisions in client cases, representing the Swedish Prison and Probation Service in legal processes, and handling compensation and damages cases that do not fall under other jurisdictions. Additionally, the department is responsible for the authority's advisory national legal preparedness. The Client Law Unit fulfills the Legal Department's responsibilities in the client law area. The unit's sections for general client law are now seeking a lawyer to be based at the regional office in Härnösand.
The Legal Department applies the option to enter into remote work agreements, which means that up to 60% of the work can be done from home, with some additional flexibility possible for long travel distances, e.g., from Umeå, Örnsköldsvik, Gävle, or Sundsvall.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
As a correctional lawyer, one of your main responsibilities will be to process and make decisions in reconsideration cases where initial decisions have been made by the local operational units of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service, including prisons and remand centers. You will also participate in coordinating and developing practices in correctional legal matters and be responsible for daily advice at the local and regional levels. You will represent the Swedish Prison and Probation Service in legal processes concerning client decisions in court. You may also handle cases regarding compensation for damages. On-call duty outside regular office hours may also be relevant.
