Proactive and socially interested?

Then we believe you will thrive with us. Statistics Sweden (SCB) is the country’s largest and foremost knowledge source for statistics. Our statistics are used everywhere, at home around the kitchen table, in news reporting, and by decision-makers in the parliament and government.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Do you have a social interest and enjoy processing data? Do you keep up with changes that affect household incomes and taxes and are interested in understanding various correlations and phenomena found in numbers and data? Are you structured and skilled in programming? With us, you will belong to a section of 12 dedicated colleagues whose goal is to describe the Swedish households' economy in terms of income and expenditure and provide users with the basis to understand how households are affected by changing regulations and the development of the Swedish economy.

Together with your colleagues in the team, you will work with the micro-simulation model FASIT (Distribution Analytical Statistical System for Income and Transfers). The model describes almost all transfer systems related to households such as the tax system and social insurance system, e.g., sickness benefits, unemployment benefits, parental leave. The model is used to analyze and describe how households are affected by changes in the systems but also to calculate the impact on the state budget. The model is primarily used by the Government Offices and the Parliamentary Research Service, but also by other authorities.

You will work on producing the extensive data bases that make it possible to simulate the regulatory systems. You will also actively work to manage upcoming changes in the systems and ensure that the model is developed to meet user needs. The work involves contacts with users of FASIT as well as other external and internal contacts to ensure that the model has access to the correct information. There are also discussions with external clients to carry out calculations tailored to the client's needs.

Do you want to ...

  • actively work with a team of colleagues to develop and adapt FASIT to changed conditions and regulations
  • work with the production and processing of large datasets to create materials that meet user needs
  • have internal and external contacts to consult and contribute to ensuring that FASIT meets user demands and expectations
  • work with clients to produce tailored calculations from FASIT
  • monitor changes in the field

... then we believe this position could be really interesting for you!

QUALIFICATIONS

We want you to have:

  • an academic degree with a focus on economics, statistics, or another social science
  • at least 30 credits in statistics
  • knowledge of programming languages, such as SAS, SQL, R, or Python
  • good ability to express yourself verbally and in writing, both in Swedish and English.

It is an advantage if you also have:

  • education in programming or econometrics
  • knowledge of handling and analyzing large datasets
  • experience in investigative and analytical work and/or statistical production
  • experience working in teams and/or projects

For this to be a good match for both you and us, you need to be structured and self-driven to process and interpret data in a quality-conscious manner. You also have good collaboration skills as the work involves contacts within the team and internally within the authority as well as with external users. Conditions and content in the model change, and therefore you also need to be proactive, creative, and have good analytical skills. Of course, you are also interested in social issues.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

This position is located in the section for household economics in Örebro. Depending on operational conditions, there is also the possibility to work some time from home.

The employment is permanent and usually starts with a six-month probationary period. The start date will be agreed upon.

With us, the competence and potential of all employees are important. We believe in an inclusive culture where we benefit from our diversity and differences. You who apply share our approaches: the courage to act, trust in each other's competence and goodwill, the ability to turn words into action, and each person's responsibility to contribute to the whole.
