Research Assistant in Polymer Chemistry and Battery Research
The Department of Chemistry - Ångström conducts research and education in the field of chemistry.
The department has 270 employees and a turnover of 300 million SEK. At the department's six programs, highly successful research of international caliber is conducted. We have a large number of externally funded research projects, often with international collaboration, and we see continued good growth within our field. The department has educational assignments within engineering and master's programs. Specific Subject Description
The Structural Chemistry program at the Department of Chemistry - Ångström has for many years focused on the development of materials and applications in the battery field: Ångström Advanced Battery Center. We develop new electrode and electrolyte materials, characterize them, improve the materials regarding battery performance, and study fundamental chemical properties in batteries using both experimental and theoretical methods. The research is therefore both fundamental and applied.
This project will focus on polymer electrolytes for solid-state batteries with improved ionic conductivity and mechanical stability, as well as polymer binders that are electrochemically stable at high potentials.
Job Responsibilities
The project encompasses both polymer chemistry and the construction and testing of batteries. The projects will involve extensive work in characterization methods such as electrochemistry, spectroscopy, and structural characterization.
The research assistant will design, plan, and carry out the experimental work, often in collaboration with colleagues, critically analyze and discuss the results, and disseminate the work orally at seminars and in writing in the form of articles in peer-reviewed journals.
Qualifications
The following qualifications are required for the position:
- Bachelor's degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, or materials science.
- Very good knowledge of English, both spoken and written.
- Knowledge and experience of lithium-based batteries, including material characterization and cell assembly.
- Experience in independently conducting research projects.
Great emphasis will also be placed on personal suitability. Consideration will be given to good collaboration skills, drive, and independence, as well as how the applicant, through their experience and competence, is assessed to complement and strengthen the research within the department/institution and contribute to its future development.
Desirable/Meritorious
Experience with polymer electrolytes for solid-state batteries is meritorious.
